A new trailer for the movie is out...and while I wouldn't classify it as a full trailer it does give us the first movie footage; this one focuses solely on the young Voldemort, who is being played by Ralph Fiennes nephew. Doesn't show too much, but there are a few good images and the young Voldemort is looking pretty evil. And to all those who say these are just stupid kids books...I challenge you to read the last several entries in this series and then say with a straight face they are just for children. http://www.moviefone.com/movie/harry-potter-and-the-half-blood-prince/27063/main
That's very possible. But I also think that it has something to do with not wanting to leave out lots of crucial plot detail without making it a 7 hour movie.
Half Blood Prince comes out Nov 21st I believe. And yes they are splitting the final book into two movies; I think it'd be impossible to cram everything into one movie as almost everything in the Deathly Hallows is crucial to the story.
I'm glad they are splitting Deathly Hallows up. I almost wish they would split up Half Blood Prince as it is almost as long and just as much important stuff happens. But I suppose if you turned the last two books into 4 movies, you risk the actors looking even more out of place than they already do playing the children that their characters are.
I just can't agree more, there are so many deep and meaningful themes in it, friendship, love, loyalty, corruption, it can be enjoyed both as a children and adult book.
Sorry for the double post, but after watching it, did it occur to anybody that when Dumbledore was in Riddle's room, he looked extraordinarily like Ian McKellen? Also, why does Riddle do nothing when his wardrobe bursts into flames? In the novel he panics immediately.

WB pushed the release date for next summer because of the huge success that was The Dark Knight. It would really throw off their numbers and projections for the following fiscal year if they had another guaranteed major blockbuster in the same fiscal year. it kind of sucks but makes perfect business sense and thats really all that the movie industry is.
International trailer looks good...but I'm still skeptical about the ending, based on the test screening a few months back.
I thought they pushed it back because of the writers strike. To push it back due to the Dark Knight sounds a silly rumor to me.
Me and my 8 year old thank you for posting this, JYD! Looking forward to it. I wish it were still getting a November release...because Harry Potter "feels" like a winter movie to me.
Seems like the decision to push the film back was last minute; why else would we have a number of trailers out already. Usually with so much time left till a film's release you get a teaser at best. So that international trailer could have very well been cut prior to the film being pushed back. And I agree about rather seeing Harry Potter during the fall/winter than in the summer. Maybe because the first few came out in October, maybe because it deals with magic, witches and wizards (and Halloween is around the corner) and maybe because it takes place during the school year and not during the summer months. Whatever the reason, Harry Potter is a fall/winter movie.
take it fwiw i was told this by someone who worked at sony pictures when they were tracking other studios to determine their own optimal release dates. in terms of business sense it would make sense for the numbers if WB grossed over a billion in this fiscal year investors would want just as much the following year which would be hard to accomplish since DK grossed way more than the most optimistic projections
I can see that. They originally scheduled Potter for this year, but when Dark Knight became such a huge success, they pushed HP to next summer to perhaps equal this summer's success. I think the reasons they gave to the media were somewhat flimsy though; I had read it was because they wanted HP to make more money, but I just don't buy that. The HP franchise has a built in fanbase, it's gonna make it's profit even it were released in the dead zones of January and September.
I heard that they needed more time to get all the special effects shots done and done right. By the way, they are splitting the Hobbit into 2 movies as well. DD
