Not getting great reviews, but I'm going to check it out tomorrow. http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/hancock/
I dislike Will Smith and Cheesy summer blockbusters. I will wait for The Dark Knight because it will pwn like nothing else has pwned before.
I can't help but like nearly everything Will Smith is in, (not to mention Jason Bateman) so I'll probably check it out regardless of the reviews.
I'm going to see an early showing tonight. Not out of excitement- a couple of friends invited me. I'll post what I think.
No disrespect to Chris Nolan and his crew but the reason for the hype is because of Heath Ledger's Iconic Performance as the joker... I wouldn't knock on Hancock because Will smith is the summer's blockbuster....
I, and I'm sure many others were eagerly anticipating TDK before Ledger was officially announced as The Joker. Christopher Nolan is an amazing filmmaker and this cast is spectacular (Katie Holmes really tried to bring down the first one, glad they replaced her.) As far as Will Smith goes, I'm probably the only person in America who doesn't really like him, but thats just me. Maybe I don't like him because everyone else loves him.

There's nothing like a star shining on his highest beams. You follow him anywhere. Read Full Review 70 The New Yorker David Denby Hancock suggests new visual directions and emotional tonalities for pop. It's by far the most enjoyable big movie of the summer. Read Full Review 70 The Hollywood Reporter Stephen Farber The visual effects are stellar, but the true star is Smith, who again demonstrates acting chops as well as effortless charisma in a vehicle that's only occasionally worthy of his superhuman skills. Read Full Review 60 Variety Todd McCarthy The effects are snazzy, even if they pass by quite quickly, and there's enough going on to keep audiences watching, if not entirely happy. Smith, Theron and Bateman capably handle the main roles, but such is the skimpiness of the scenario that no further characters make any impact. Read Full Review
The hype was already there. Persistent rumors of Ledger's performance is like the cherry on top of the hype...
I wasn't a big fan of Batman Begins, but when I heard the Joker was going to be in TDK, I was interested.... I'm not a fanboy, I despise fanboys for always riding on d**ck... Nothing beats the Adam west campy show from the 60's...
I agree. The Heath Ledger thing adds to the mystique of it, but there was going to be tons of hype/anticipation whether or not he passed away. BTW, Kevin Smith gushes about it, and you know he'll slam a movie (especially a comic book movie, being the comic geek he is) if it deserved it. As for Hancock...let's just say it doesn't pique my interest. It looks like a mediocre popcorn flick at best, so I'll pass. And I'm not the type that will try out a movie based on the stars, I don't care for any actor enough to do that.
Only movie I ever saw the Fresh Prince in was Ali. Probably will be the only movie he's in that I ever see.
Crazy...you've never seen Independence Day? Men in Black? I'm not a huge fan of either of the movies (at least as an adult) but I'm surprised you haven't caught a viewing as they're on ALL the time somewhere...
Hancock, originally titled Tonight He Comes, was originally written in 1996. A movie in development that long has got to have some problems and is probably barely similar to the original script.
