JOE too like Transformers? How do you guys think this movie will turn out? CG looks goood but now sure about the movie.
Sad thing is, I honestly can't see any way this thing turns out good, but I already know I'm going to go see it.
I think I'm the only kid my age who didn't get into GI Joe almost at all. I mean transformers, thundercats, master of the universe, ninja turtles, I had it all. I think my lone GI joe was snake eyes.
I think just like Transformers people have to realize this is a franchise based on a toy line and animated series. Go in expecting it to be fun with a lot of action...don't expect deep characters or story and you should enjoy it. ....I hope.
you could say the same thing about most comic book movies. but then comes along a movie like dark knight and you have to think that if they wanted they could do something that was actually a little deeper.
Which characters are in the movie? I think this must be better than transformers, since in transformers the story line focussed around the people, instead of the robots. In this movie the story line has to focus on the people. What were those suits suppossed to be?
No... Batman may be just a comic book but it has decades worth of stories and at least some of which were well written and gave the characters depth. Transformers and G.I. Joe are really just toys with a cartoon series made for children. They're going a little deeper just by not having cheesy theme music and anti-drug messages in the movie.
or even the first spider-man.... it's ok to mix an actual story line with character development in. who know, you might find people even like that a little bit.
After the first trailer I was all Gung-ho (he he..) about seeing this movie, but after seeing this new one with those stupid suits and lame-ass dialogue, I think I'm going to pass.
I'm sorry, but the excuse that these are made for children and were cartoons/toy lines originally is weak. Go check out the Transformers CARTOON movie from 1986 (I think?) and tell me it was devoid of plot. The reason these cartoons (GI Joe less than some others) hold up so well still today is that cartoons dealt with some very adult themes. Now, obviously they were still cheesy and played down to kids, but the Cartoon Transformers movie was a better scripted, deeper, and significantly more dramatic film than the live action one Bay put out. GI Joe is an institution. If these guys put on a crappy film I will be highly, highly disappointed.
I think you're giving these 80's franchises way too much credit. I remember watching some of the old Transformers cartoons before watching the movie at the Drafthouse when the first one came out. Wasn't quite what I remembered as a I kid. Another staple of the 80's...Vultron...well I watched a few episodes form Season one the other week and it was barely watchable. I agree with you in part though, there's no excuse for laziness. Every movie is capable of having at least a partially well-written story and serviceable characters. And any director worth a damn should be able to get the best out of their actors. Personally, I enjoyed the first two Mummy films. If Stephen Sommers can tap into that success, we might have a decent movie. The rumors I've heard though suggest otherwise. But I still remain hopeful.
