Watched this last night. Still can't decide if I liked it or not. There were some incredibly funny parts, some really sad parts, some strange strange parts, some painfully SLOW parts, and all in all no plot and no real story. And it was LONG. Over two hours long. This has never happened to me before. I have never taken this long to decide if I liked the movie or not. As of right now, I'm still undecided.
Would you go to a theatre to see it again? I really haven't liked much of Adam Sandler's recent work.
I've heard nothing but "sucked, wasn't funny brah." With that cast though, I honestly don't really see how it could be competely devoid of humor. A strange plot evolution was to be expected IMO, but it must have SOME redeeming elements?
There were some funny as bits and pieces, like really funny, but they were so spaced throughout the movie it was hard to label the entire movie as funny. And NO I would not go to the theater again to see it mainly because it was so damn long. I kept looking at my watch.
Did you see Aziz doing that story on Jimmy Kimmel? That character alone seems it would float the film.
Most of the time, the best parts of a comedy are in the trailer...and the trailer for Funny People was lame.
Usually not the case with rated R comedies. I can think of Forgetting Sarah Marshall, I love you man, and pineapple express.
Actually I thought all the trailers for those were funny and did show quite a few of the funniest parts. The red band trailers, anyway. Speaking of which, the red band trailer for Funny People might as well have been called a pink band trailer. It was possibly worse than the standard one.
i liked it, im a fan of Apatow's work, if you can get passed that its not as comedic as his past directorial work, then you'd appreciate it. The funny bits are mostly from the standup parts of the movie which is why some people aren't used to that, as I actually go to Comedy acts at Improv and various other places around town. Hell, my cousin and I were quoted most of the jokes today. If your expecting LOL Hangover/past Apatow stuff, you'll think it sucked. Would I watch it again in theaters? Sure, plan on to also. Spoiler The eminem and Ray Romano part was freaking priceless.....
I really liked it. I thought it was better than knocked up not as good as 40 yr old, as far apatow directed films. It's very long and the comedy is spaced out during the last hour, but all the cameos were awesome. I'll definitely watch it again, just not at the theater.
It's a drama with complex people and funny parts. I also like it better than Knocked Up and not as much as 40 Year Old Virgin. I'd watch it again, or at least before seeing another stupid-ass POS movie like The Ugly Truth.
I haven't seen it yet, but I think I know enough about the plot to see why it wouldn't be like past Apatow comedies. It seems odd that a movie called "Funny People" would be the least funny of the Apatow films.
I thought it was funny. Not apatow's greatest but not bad. It was a bit long and some weird parts. The dialogue between schwartzmen, hill and rogen is hilarious. Im a big fan of rogen and schwartzmen though. Thats why I saw it.
