Man this movie looks really really good, i read it cost around 200 Million to make . Movie starts May 14, this friday!! Make sure n check it out!
I read "The Trojan War" when I was in 5th grade. I've been hooked on Greek mythology since. I can't wait!
I can't wait for this...I'm reading a Bio on Alexander the Great now and love history type movies... Should be pretty cool...
IMMORTALITY....TAKE IT....IT'S YOURS!! I heard he actually had an achillie's heel injury while filming
Several interesting angles to wonder about: I've heard that they're really downplaying the Olympian angle to the Illyiad, which will make for an interesting version, probably along the lines of Herodotus' version ( human antagonism rather than godly inspirations). Am I correct in that Odysseus is played by Sean Bean? Interesting, if so. Who plays Agammemnon? Hecuba? ( I expect Judy Dench, if only to reprise her role from Brannagh's Hamlet)... This is what I have heard: Achilles: Pitt Hector: Guy from the Hulk. Paris: Bloom Priam: O'Toole Helen: unknown actress. and those listed above. Of course there are others, including the most famous cuckold of all time ( or second to Arthur?), but these are the principals. It will be interesting to see if Pitt can pull off the sheer brute force and ruthless fury of Achilles; for those who haven't read Homer, think Crowe in Galdiator times 20, plus Scott in Patton times 10, plus Gibson in Braveheart times 5. I honestly don't know, and the clip of his inspirational speech shows him doing the role justice, but we'll see. Same goes for whoever is playing Hector, almost. Will they have him drag...er, a certain corpse ( avoiding spoilers) around the city behind his chariot, or is that too brutal for modern audiences? Will Hecuba have the same ocular difficulties? Am so excited...
MacBeth, here's a pretty good cast list: http://romanticmovies.about.com/library/weekly/aatroycast.htm Early returns on RottenTomatoes has it at a 45% fresh rating, not too good.
Thanks guys: Brian Cox? Hey, don't get me wrong, he's a hell of an actor, but as Agamemnon? I just think he's too old and out of shape. God, they could have dragged out Brian Blessed if they were going for an oldie but goodie...Interesting that they do have lesser lights like Aeneas, Menelaus and the like; it's going to involve a lot of explanations, and I wonder how they'll fit it all in. I take it they're skipping Hecuba entirely!?!? ( No listed actress).
here's a pic of him in Troy: http://www.imdb.com/gallery/ss/0332452/Ss/0332452/Troy-13437.jpg?path=pgallery&path_key=Cox, Brian (I) he doesn't look out of place..makeup can do hell of alot
Just back from the 12:40 free showing... Well it is an awesome epic and all $250 million shows up on the screen. It's long and rambling like the books, however no gods actually make an appearance so the story seems to tend to be more what was the actual truth of the time might have been. There are no heros, each character has his/her own sense of tragedy. For those of us who grewup our Saturday gladiator pics, this is the full blown adult version. The sense of scale is mind boggleing. The casting works out great. Pitt may be just a bit too beautiful but he was supposed to be the son of a god; he certainly broods like Achilles. (the girls thought he was just right). You don't come out uplifted but, this is still a 'must see' for any film buff. It is definitely Acadamey Award material.
