They just wrapped up production in Austin First Look At Jason From Friday the 13th Remake Movie Friday the 13th (2009) Posted By: Goon / Source Horror fans all over have been waiting to catch a glimpse at what Platinum Dunes was going to do with their "re-envisoining" of Jason. Today B-D got their hands on the first image of Jason and I have to say it looks pretty good. Although he does look a little off. Maybe its the clothing he is wearing. But still I have to say fans don't have much to argue about at this point. We got Jason, a machete and young teens all converging at Camp Crystal Lake. Now in my opinion that is all you need for a recipe of horror goodness when you are talking about a Friday the 13th movie. Marcus Nispel who directed the Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake is behind the camera on this project. The film will be hitting screens on February 13th, 2009. Thats Friday the 13th! LINK Set Visit Preview: The New Friday the 13th June 11, 2008 by Alex Billington Last weekend I was invited down to Austin, Texas to visit the set of the new reboot of Friday the 13th. It was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that I couldn't pass up and it ended up being one of the best set visits I've ever been on. I joined up with a few other websites and spent one hell of entertaining evening down near an over-turned bus watching the new Jason swing his machete and chase two "kids" around for hours. We've been a bit harsh previously on the cast of this film, but all of those bad memories went away when I arrived at the new and improved Camp Crystal Lake. While I'm not the biggest Friday the 13th fan out there, being able to actually step in to the action and experience it all first hand really made me realize that this new Friday the 13th is going to kick some serious ass. Due to requirements set forth by Warner Brothers, I'll save the real meat of my set visit for a future date. But let me tell you, this isn't a horror reboot to simply forget about. While we often see mediocre horror flicks like Shutter and Prom Night, this Friday the 13th is going to be one of the most entertaining and horrific experiences you'll see next year. The feeling on the set was not that it was just another throwaway horror film, but rather that this was a franchise that has a legacy and that they're honoring everything before it while attacking it in a new and fun way. They're bringing Jason Voorhees back to life in a way that we've probably never seen and that is really what will make this Friday the 13th stand out. Platinum Dunes producers Andrew Form and Brad Fuller brought back director Marcus Nispel, who made their 2003 reboot of Texas Chainsaw Massacre, to direct this. They felt he did such a great job breathing new life into that franchise that they wanted him to do it again with Friday the 13th. As a refresher, although the Friday the 13th franchise has spanned 11 films, this new one is a reboot that is starting from scratch. However, unlike the first Friday the 13th from 1980, Jason is already a full-fledged grown up and his history will be told via flashbacks. The last time Jason was on the big screen was in Freddy vs Jason in 2003 and Jason X in 2001 before that. And now 6 years later, his machete is still as sharp. There is something very fascinating about spending eight hours in 80 degree weather in the forest at night, watching the bustle of the countless crew members preparing for each shot, joking with an unmasked Derek Mears about Jason as they finish applying makeup to his chest, and listening to each cast and crew member tell their own Friday the 13th stories. As remarkable as it may seem, Derek Mears, who plays the new and improved Jason, is probably the biggest fan of Friday the 13th out of anyone else working on the movie. And it's that kind of passion and enthusiasm that really shined through down in Austin. As much as I'd love to tell you more and give you the complete details on this great set visit, it'll have to wait. However, the full report will definitely be worth it, especially for Friday the 13th fans! LINK Interview With Michael Bay who is producing the new movie You recently wrapped production on your update of Friday the 13th, and horror buffs out there are dying to know: what's it going to be about? It’s a reconception of the original. We’re introducing a whole group of new kids. What we always try to do is add a little bit of freshness to these movies that were really scary back then and update them for a new audience. So are you following the same plot as the very first Friday the 13th? It’s a little different. I don’t want to give it away because of the Internet crazies. There's been rumors that you're going to include plots from all three Friday the 13ths into your remake. Is that true? The first two, yeah. Where did you film the Crystal Lake scenes? In Austin, where we also shot Texas Chainsaw. Austin gives you a lot of looks. Is there anything else you are willing to divulge about it? I haven’t seen the director's cut because he’s still cutting, but I know this one will really be scary; it’s also funny, as well. It’s a fun college adventure that goes awry. It’s not a movie I would ever show my mom! (Laughs) We don’t make these for our mothers; we make these for the fans out there. Speaking of those fans, what do you say to people who are worried that an update of Friday the 13th will ruin the original? There are always haters out there, and you can’t get rid of that. We try to be faithful, and we’re fans ourselves. It’s like when I did Transformers — I listened to the fans, you know, but you still have to make your own movie by respecting what was done and trying to give it a whole new twist. How have you given it a new twist? You’re just not going to believe the first 12 minutes! It’s a twist in itself. And you’re actually working on a remake of Nightmare on Elm Street, too, right? Don’t know yet. We haven’t made our deal, but it’s worth every penny. LINK
I could never get into this movie, but isnt it supposed to be one of the best horror movies of all time? Why the hell would you remake it? Michael Bay is a complete idiot.
When I saw Part 2 back in the day it scared the crap out of me and went downhill. They've made so many now I've lost count.
no plot? check mindless action? check waste of millions of dollars in cgi in hopes of getting a blockbuster? check michael bay? Check!!!
Why is a remake even necessary? Camp counselors knock boots. Jason kills them. It's not a particularly deep or engaging narrative. At least they're sticking to the formula, so it can't possibly be worse than Jason Goes to Hell.
This is Friday the 13th and Jason...we are talking about. Consistency, Logic, Engaging Plot, and Good Storyline is not required.
Let's see we have sequels, remakes of old American genre movies, American remakes of Japanese horror flicks, remakes of old TV shows, adaptations of comic books and graphic novels and movie versions of stage plays. I realize its easier to get a "green light" when you have a known commodity (and a ready made audience), but it would be nice to see more original movies.
2 was pure gold. Nothing beats Jason running around with a burlap sack on his head...with only one eye hole. He didn't have the iconic mask until 3.
You forgot remakes of remakes, American cartoons, Bollywood movies (which rip off Hollywood movies), British films, British TV series, and even trashed scripts.
The best thing about the original Friday the 13th movies was the fact that they used faceless actors and the soft p*rn. I still love the old natural sexiness you see in the late 70s early 80s movies. Now all of the makeup and slick hair and revealing cut clothing has ruined that. Still sexy, I suppose, but I liked it better then. If they really want to make a remake BTW, they should try their hand at Terror Train. Though that movie is classic horror in my mind.
History of Jason Part 3 also gave us one of the last movies in 3-D. Part 4 was supposed to be the end after Corey Feldman's character decapitated him to pieces. Part 5 the infamous "Roy" Jason..... Part 6 Jason Lives as Super Ghoul, punching threw people and jumping from out of nowhere. Part 7 big showdown with a Carrie-knockoff Part 8 Heads for big Apple Final Friday A one way ticket to hell via the Hidden plot device X He is miraculously alive, frozen, brought back to life 400 years into future in space. vs. Freddy....the same Krueger guy with 8 inch razor sharp knives for fingernails. F13th writers and filmmaker know how stretch concept don't they, but too bad more times than not they fail to deliver in their final execution.
Jason X was great. They took a jumptheshark idea and ran with it, even making time to poke fun at previous entries in the series.
Only reason to see this would be to to catch a glimpse of some Willa Ford boobage, and/or a sex scene with her riding Jason.
I don't really get why it needs a remake. Just do another sequel. I would say that's more interesting and challenging than a reboot. Or just create another monster serial killer. Whatever. I'll see it when it's on dvd or sci-fi. Whichever comes first.
I saw it in 3-D with my Dad when I was 5, good times . I will check this out on DVD . The one where he was in space kind of made me lose interest in the series . It was quite funny though .
