It is obvious that Francis cannot run the point, but he can score, pick up a true PG in the offseason by trading Cat. Next year francis and griffin will be the scorers, and our new Pg can get them the ball. This will get us back to the playoffs! Put Griffin at the 3 and Mo t at the 4 and draft a center or just pick some free agent up. Kenny T could be traded for a true center, along with cato. Tell me what you think!
3 post and he states trade Cat what a tool! Hello einstein if you watched as many games as quite a few of us have you would see our leading scorer was CAT Your a newbie so your gonna get ragged on so welcome to the BBs! We all went through it
Why would you trade Cat and move Steve to the 2. Cat is a better two guard than Steve and you could get more in a trade for Steve either by packaging him with a big contract (Rice), or trading him after his max extension. if(Trade Cat) GM = fired;
I'll sum it up. 1.) Mobley is a better 2 guard than Steve. 2.) Francis may not be as willing to stay in Houston if Mobley's gone. I think if the Rockets became a playoff team after trading Mobley, Francis would be likely to stay. But if the Rockets still suck and his best friends are no longer on the team, why would he really want to stay? 3.) You'd be hard-pressed to find a better bargain in the NBA than Mobley. Just compare him to Allan Houston, and it should be clear how much of a bargain he really is. To get rid of someone who produces like Mobley and gets paid relatively little would not be a smart move.
The reason that Francis didn't want to play for the Grizzleys was that he wants to play point guard in the NBA. Francis knows that he and Mobley are potentaily the most difficult guard to defend. Mobley and Francis have a special relationship. They bought houses next to each other. Mobley took less money signing with the Rockets when Toronto was making a strong pitch at signing him. Francis might have SG numbers or All star SF numbers, but he wants to be a pg. All that Francis needs are front court scorers that can create off the pass. If the Rockets can get guys that can finish the shots, Francis will rack up the assists. So, if Francis isn't the point guard for the Rockets he'll be a point guard for another team.
Great explanation... I can say, "Cato is a better PG than Steve." And that holds as much weight as your terse statement.
So you are saying, what Francis wants, Francis gets? If he is going to act like a pu$$y by b****ing about playing SG instead of PG, I don't want him on my team. Francis needs to shut up and pay his dues (a playoff appearance would be nice) before he makes demands. For one thing, Francis could start by being able to defend opposing PGs. If he doesn't improve on that, we might have no choice but to put him at SG, to guard not as quick SGs. I don't give a crap if Francis is grabbing his ankles with Mobley. A player is not bigger than a team. Especially a player who requested a trade as soon as he was drafted from Van. Where did Francis get the ability to have the franchise by the balls? I guess he learned from Moochie this past summer.
When has he done so to the Rockets? The Rockets haven't asked him to start at SG. He hasn't b****ed about having to start at SG. The Rockets won't ever ask him to start at SG (unless Mobley is injured). He won't ever have to b**** about starting at SG. As for b****ing about playing SG, as BGM has said before: So who's the SG when we go to the patented 3 guard/small ball lineup? Moochie? He led the Rockets to the 45-37, would have been playoffs any other year, record in just his second season. Next year will be the year. Once our whole team isn't injured and we don't have to watch the Rockets win 2 games and lose a billion without Francis, while fiddling around with new daily lineups when he does play. What will this accomplish though? Making a guy that has played pg well enough in his first 3 seasons to be named an All-Star starter in his 3rd season (even while missing half of the year) change positions. Making our SG that has averaged around 25 ppg since the all-star break change positions or come off the bench. All of this so Francis can guard SG's like Tracy McGrady and Allen Iverson, as opposed to those lightning quick PG's Derek Fisher and Mark Jackson... ...Moving Francis to SG will not have a positive effect on his defense because he will be guarding slower guys. There are fast and slow guys at both guard positions. There are SG types from Allen Iverson to Allen Houston, and PG types from Stephon Marbury to Mark Jackson. All that making Francis guard shooting guards will change, is the average height of the players he defends, from the tallest PG's like 6'5 Jamal Crawford, to the SG's which are about 6'5 on average, with guys like McGrady, Bryant and Bonzi Wells easily being able to post up on and shoot over Francis.
Well I've explained the reasons at least half a dozen times, but the same topic keeps on coming up. Mobley's a better spot-up shooter, better off-balance shooter, better finisher, better 3-point shooter. What else is there? I think Cuttino's just simply a better scorer than Steve.
I've heard this move Steve to the 2-guard, and pick up true point guard. Who is his true point guard. I thought a "true" point guard was an endangered species in today's NBA
Fans would rather see Steve shooting than anyone else on this team. People at the game last night were screaming "Pull up for the J, Stevie!" "Drive it in Stevie!" "Don't give it to him, Stevie!" and also "Go to the CBA, Langhi!" "Pass the damn ball, Cat!" "No! Don't give it to Kenny!" Bottom line, Francis is the more reliable shooter. Cat gets in those grooves, but Steve hits the shots that get you excited and pumped up. People groaned when any other Rockets missed a shot, but were dead silent when Francis missed. Hmmm...I've always wished Steve and Cat weren't such good friends. Trading scenarios would be so much more flexible.
finals, your description tells me that Francis is our "prodigal son." Really, we do give him the benefit of the doubt over other players. Maybe it's deserved though. He's a talented player.
gr8-1, Look at their shooting percentages this year, or as I like to think of it, what they are capable of right now, as opposed to what they did earlier in their careers. Heck I would rather have Peja Stojakovic shooting than Jordan right now, but I think Jordan has a higher career FG%.
DC Kid-You bring up valid points. However, Cat is too hot and cold. Not to mention that he is not a good finisher as a SG. Francis is a much better finisher, though he's not doing that this year.
I basically see our offense as 2 PG's and 1 SG when we go to our 3-guard lineup. Using your logic, Cat would be our SF. There's a reason why it's called a 3-guard lineup, there's 3 guards in at the same time. Francis does not move without the ball like most SGs should, when Moochie is dribbling around the perimeter for 24 seconds. Francis does nothing like a SG right now.
Mobley is to hot and cold!? He and Francis are scoring about the same amount of points this season. And Francis is a better finisher? What exactly does it mean to be a better "finisher"? As long as both of them are dropping about 20 ppg I'm happy. The Rockets problems is a low post scorer. Get somebody like that to balance out the Rockets then we won't here people constantly comparing Francis and Mobley and wanting to trade either of them. And for the people who want Francis to shoot all the time, that's how you get one-man shows that never make the playoffs. I'd rather have a balanced offense then an offense that goes exclusively through Francis.
