I recently moved up north and have a gas fire place in my townhome which I love and use all the time.

Here is my question though. I have a treasured autographed framed photo (VY scoring the wining TD against USC) hanging above the fire, and am concerned that the photo may get damaged.

The photo is frame din glass, though the frame does get warm......I really have no idea what to do and am even having a hard time coming up with search words to use on google, essentially i am kind of lost.

I would consider not doing that. Might be alright, but... who wants VY on their fireplace? jk, seriously, I'd hate to see something you care about get ruined. It would probably be fine for a long while, but eventually....
