Since this phone has been winning awards all around the internet for the Best CES product of 2011.. thought it deserves it's own thread now. How many people are looking to upgrade to this beast?
really hate bring palm into the conversation here, but it shows how innovative they really were. palm owns this patent (based off the foleo concept), but i doubt any legal ramifications will come of this if they're willing to let rim run all over their arse with the playbook. in any event, hell yeah... that is a badarse phone. would consider getting it. depends on what smartphones and tabs hp announces on 2/9.
Saw that skinny 4.3in phones w lotsa power are on the horizon. Phones. Cant buy one and be satisfied. Sucks. Always something better around the corner.
Last summer I correctly decided not to buy Android because I figured I'd have a dinosaur on my hands in 6 months. I just wonder where (and how fast) things are headed. This phone is a major breakthrough and sets an exciting baseline going forward. Just think when HTC or Samsung kick in with their versions.
HP has never really been known as a litigious company, but you have to wonder if they'll wake up one day and throw the book at RIM and Motorola. Especially RIM, who basically decided to make their own version of WebOS and put it on the PlayBook.
wonder what the price will be, wouldn't be surprised if its like $300, I'd rather buy this than a 32gb iPhone
To be honest, I have been completely satisfied with my phone. I got the Evo a month back and couldn't be happier. Now, that Motorola phone looks awesome. That whole docking bay with the mouse and keyboard is sweet.
Beastly specs but stuck with AT&T firmware (no easily sideloading apps, no tethering without paying AT&T, MOTOBLUR which sucks) and an encrypted bootloader which is very hard to crack (like the Droid X/Droid 2. Honestly, I think I am going to stay away from Motorola Android devices, especially AT&T ones) meaning even with root, you are stuck with the firmware. Great hardware (breakthrough hardware, very much a game changer in the smartphone world), not so great on the software. Now the HTC Inspire 4G with Sense 2.0, that seems like something I want (kinda like an Evo with the next gen Qualcomm processor so better graphics/3D). Overall, I am going to wait until AT&T drops LTE before purchasing my next device.
You can get swype or SlideIt keyboard. I have the same issue and these two android apps have made it easy for me. Don't think iPhone has an equivalent.
Looks neat, but I still think lack of tactile feedback would drive me bonkers. I have large hands, and typing on my wife's iphone is aggravating at best. My ancient blackberry allows me to type quite quickly and with few errors.
I really hope you're not talking about the Evo Shift lol. The HTC Thunderbolt will basically be the EVO 2 but for Verizon, their first 4g phone.
While I have to applaud Motorola for an incredible effort in putting this together and breaking new ground, the star of the show here really is the NVIDIA Tegra 2 chip. That's why my next device is going to have a Tegra 2 or a TI OMAP4 (similarly awesome chip: Cortex A9, dual cores at 1GHz+, integrated PowerVR SGX540 3D accelerator, HDMI interface that can support a 1900x1200 display, 20MP camera image processor, hardware video encoding and decoding up to 1080p, hardware audio decoding so you can play music literally for days on end, 45nm process = great battery life, etc. etc.) The Qualcomm chips don't have the awesome multimedia capabilities that NVIDIA and TI's chips do. The Blackberry PlayBook, which also wowed audiences at CES, is powered by a TI OMAP4. That's why they were able to do stuff like play Quake 3D, watch a 1080p movie and play music simultaneously while playing around with a photo album. I'm anxious to see what HP unloads on February 9. I expect their stuff to be Tegra 2-powered as well, and if all indications are right, their flagship 4G slab phone is headed to Sprint in June, although they might even do like Samsung and make their devices available for multiple carriers at once (a la Galaxy).
