http://thescotsman.scotsman.com/international.cfm?id=154232006 100 rush to adopt lake-rescue baby DOZENS of people mobbed a hospital in Brazil yesterday, hoping to adopt or catch a glimpse of a baby girl found in a black plastic bag floating on a lake. Odilion Behrens Municipal Hospital, in Belo Horizonte, received more than 100 offers to adopt the two-month-old, who was said to be in good health. The baby's rescue on Saturday was filmed by an amateur video cameraman and broadcast on national television. Helcio Sa Bernardes, a state police inspector in Minas Gerais, said the baby's mother was arrested on Sunday and had been charged with attempted murder for putting the baby into the bag, setting it on a board and pushing it into the lake. The mother, Simone Cassiano da Silva, has denied abandoning the girl. She claimed she gave the baby to a group of homeless people because she did not have enough money to raise the child."That's just a lie to mislead the police," Inspector Bernardes said.
I know this is going to sound awful but reading this story made me think of the Brian Eno song, "Baby's on Fire" off his "Here Come the Warm Jets" album.
For some reason, they caught this whole story on tape. The baby floating in the river and all. I saw the video earlier this morning. Wierd story.
