I think I may have just come across the most unique accent in all of American English. Tangier Island, Virginia. The population was 727 at the 2010 census. The majority of the original settlers were from South West England, and the tiny island community has attracted the attention of linguists because its people speak a unique English Restoration-era dialect of American English. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/AIZgw09CG9E?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe src="https://www.google.com/maps/embed?pb=!1m18!1m12!1m3!1d1613598.7632741241!2d-75.99201404999994!3d37.82377195000002!2m3!1f0!2f0!3f0!3m2!1i1024!2i768!4f13.1!3m3!1m2!1s0x89b989f7e80a49e3%3A0x63571185a03d2247!2sTangier%2C+VA+23440!5e0!3m2!1sen!2sus!4v1405293409141" width="400" height="300" frameborder="0" style="border:0"></iframe>

A co-worker was talking about watching a documentary about some crazy accent on an island somewhere in the US. Wonder if this is what he was talking about? Check out the Gullah language of the slaves and their ancestors off of the east coast that some still speak. Not an accent, but still ...
Fascinating. Sounds like Welch and East Coast redneck rolled into one. Old-ass video, though. I would guess very early 80's. As this is two to four generations old (all old farts in the video), I'd like to see something more current with the proliferation of national TV and internet videos since then.
Here's something more current: <iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/upKqzxuJ5L4?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
