There are plenty of high profile, high $ moves this offseason, from Shaq to VC to Ron (a bit light on the $ side), but I think some of the moves that escape notice will end up making a pretty big on-court impact when all is said and done. My candidate for the most underrated move (in terms of potential impact to publicity ratio) this offseason is below: Do you agree? If not, what are yours? Cavs' Acqusition of Anthony Parker and Jamario Moon: I believe they split the MLE between the two guys, and addressed their major weakness of having no size on the wings. It was painful watching the likes of Delonte West guarding Hedo Turkoglu and their only option for a big wing, other than Lebron James was a broken down Wally Szczerbiak. Parker may be getting up there in age, but can still shoot and even ran a little point last year. Jamario Moon brings major length and atheleticsim to the line up. If they match up with Orlando again, they can now move Lebron to the 4 to defend Rashard Lewis, while plugging in Parker/Moon at the 2 and/or 3 spot. It makes the playoffs matchup game that much more favorable.
Yeah.. when I first saw the title of the thread I immediately thought about Anthony Parker going to the Cavs. Even more so than Jamario Moon, but both are very good acquisitions. I think the Shaq trade has overshadowed those two moves, but Parker and Moon will contribute just as much, IMO. Other great moves that nobody is talking about.. Orlando adding Matt Barnes The Wizards adding both Mike Miller and Foye And the Nuggest basically swapping Dahntay Jones for Arron Afflalo
IMO its the Brandon Bass signing. It makes Orlando so much better finally having a natural 4 and sliding Shard back to the 3.
Without a list of all roster moves so far, I agree with you. Bass will clean up offensive rebounds and get plenty of wide-open looks because of Howard. People are finally going to find out how good he is.
Moon is a scrub, belongs on the bench. Parker was good the season before last, he's taken a step back due to age, plus I hate the fact ALL his shots are fadeaways.
No one is expecting these players to put Cleveland over the top. Ferry is just acquiring cheap talent and trying to addressing a need. These are the type of players you acquire knowing no one wants to play there. The allure of playing with LBJ and Shaq isn't enough plus Cleveland just doesn't attract big names. I doubt either of these two will be starters and are upgrades over Sasha and Wally.
1. Brandon Bass (Orlando) - Will grab a ton of boards and have more than enough easy scoring opportunities near the rim. Finishing around the rim is arguably the strongest part of his game. Orlando seems like the most well-rounded team now that they added the only role their team lacked last year (a scoring, around-the-rim, true power-forward). 2. Jamal Crawford (Hawks) - Snaked away for peanuts. Hopefully he will provide a much needed spark off the bench ala the way Woodson used Flip Murray last year. Could put solidify them as top 5 in the east in a best-case scenario, and they certainly aren't any worse.
