It's got to be The Cosby Show. Don't believe me? This summer, Nick at Nite is screwing with my television viewing schedule by airing blocks of shows every night. Monday and Thursday nights are Cosby nights. While I liked the show when it was originally on, I really didn't have a desire to watch the show. However, I did because I was simply waiting for Cheers to come on. Yeah, I didn't laugh a single time. Simply horrible. Anyone agree? What other shows have done this to you? Three's Company is close to me because every damn episode is the same.
Friends. By far - Friends. Also, there's a difference between "overrated" and "dated." Seen today, both The Cosby Show & yes, even Cheers seem dated. Objectively though I think they were quality shows. Seinfeld & The Simpsons will never be overrated, nor will they ever feel dated. Friends on the other hand is a putrid pile of roach feces.
I used to think Seinfeld was overrated when it aired weekly but now that I watch it daily on the non-stop comedy block, I'm a huge fan of it. Never been a fan of Friends, even now when it comes on daily between Seinfeld episodes. Reminds me too much of those god forsaken chick flicks.
If it has David E. Kelley's name on it, I'm sure the ratings will be high and I will absolutely hate the show. West Wing would also go on my list. Yuck!
Yeah, The Cosby Show wasn't all that great. I think it gets the props it does for being one of the earliest shows to feature a successful African American family. At least that's what I read on some TAAS passage back in seventh grade, so don't quote me. Anything on tv right now not called Curb Your Enthusiasm sucks. Never got the fuss over X-Files either.
well... i would have said seinfield, but i haven't seen a full episode of it before. i did finally catch part of one a couple of days ago. it was about someone stealing a candybar or something. i was kinda cool. sooo, i'd have to say "murder she wrote".
Friends is waaaayyyyyyyyyyy up on my list. I also have to agree with Jeff about West Wing. The Cosby Show is a little Brady Bunchish nowadays, but I still find it funny.
I don't really think so. There's a reason why I can still watch Cheers and laugh my ass off. Same with The Bob Newhart Show, All in the Family, The Jeffersons, etc. I'd agree with you if they didn't play the friggin' Cosby Show all the time. And Jeff, screw you. The West Wing is awesome!!!
2... sorry guys..I dont see it as the funniest show ever, like some here do. I have tried to see it your way..and I admit, it is amusing...but funniest ever...sorry..dont see it and Friends definitely...waaay over-rated. Family Matters.. how did this show last as long as it did? pathetic...not funny at all.. OMG I agree with T_J about something?? The sky is falling......
The question is, is it overrated though. I never thought it was the funniest sitcom ever, per say. I think Seinfeld is more than anything, clever. Perhaps thats why it ends up being called funny. Its hard to argue that Larry David is not a genius with some of the scripts he wrote.
Can’t stand the Honeymooners ? Oh darn, you just fell off that pedestal ......... Maybe I'm starting to show my age.
