Not sure if this is DD material but here it goes: Out of the all the countries YOU HAVE BEEN TO OR LIVED IN, which one seemed to be the most xenophobic? Which one seemed to be the least xenophobic?
Mexico most. I really don't think a black person could get by there. USA least by far. Europe is in between. I feel Europe has a lot of tension under the surface. Just my impression.
Yep, my Dad did business in Japan when I was growing up and I got to visit a few summers while I was still in highschool. Definitely some deeply ingrained myths about gaijin there. This isn't only limited to westerners - we're talking about problems with other asians.
Oh - sorry for the double post. As for the least, to me it would be Ethiopia. They treat foreigners better than they treat themselves - a lot of that has to do with the culture in Ethiopia though.
The least xenophobic for me was Colombia. I'm of Asian descent and no one made ching-chong sounds, or the slant eye or kung fu poses. And the ladies were very friendly and receptive. They don't have the same stereotypes of Asians there as they do in the States. Italy was pretty bad. People were not very nice to me and lots of groups of Italian guys prowling around did the slant eyes, kung fu pose, ching-chong thing. USA can be pretty bad depending on where you are but as long as you are in a major city, things usually aren't so bad. And even though Asian countries are suspicious of foreigners (they have a good reason to be), they generally won't physically attack foreigners so it isn't that bad.
My personal perception from having visited is that Japan is the most xenophobic country and Canada is the least xenophobic. Remember that it's my perception... I don't know the numbers.
The OP's asking for personal experience. Of course, you've been around the world so you should know (couldn't help it  )
I pretty much agree w/ this......but have to agree with a previous poster as well that Italy seems to have quite a few more idiots than the other countries  As far as least xenophobic, maybe Canada or Singapore
Yes, I am actually in Korea right now. I have indeed been around the world, I just can't make up my mind. I personally can't really remember having been subject to xenophobia much. I don't think the USA are a lot more or less xenophobic than the average. You have xenophobic people like Batman Jones or the racists in Alabama, etc., but most of the people are friendly to foreigners.
