http://www.82games.com/0809/FGTEAM16.HTM Denver #1 with 360+ Dunks San Antonio : last with only 46 Dunks My conclusion even though they're a good team, they have less dunks than Carl Landry who plays 20 minutes a game has 48 Dunks, Spurs living up to the moniker that they're the least athletic team in the league
San Antonio's dunk total is not just funny because they're last. It's funny because they have less than half the number of dunks of the next to last team. And yet the Spurs still rank 7th in the league in FG%.
Spurs are tied for 1st in 3pt% (nba.com) and are 3rd in 2pt% (82games). There's a lot of space between the rim and 3 pt line to make shots.
its a fun stat to look at but it's really basically useless. when the best teams in the league are mixed with the worst teams in the league at the top of a stat AND at the bottom of a stat, you can be sure it has almost nothing to do with winning.
I agree, OKC is up there are they're turrible but Seriously, except for Duncan who occasionaly dunks it in and Gino who occasionally dunks, I can't think of anyone who could dunk on their team. Spurs are so reliant on three-point shooting, its incredible, they're last at getting to the line, btw.
They're also last in offensive rebounds per game which is generally a sign of lack of athleticism. And they don't take risks in transition that lead to easy buckets for the opposing team. After a shot goes up, they hustle back on defense. The Spurs beat you with defense, efficiency, great execution and great coaching. Even if they slipped a little this year, they are still an elite defensive team. At the other end, they don't turn the ball over and execute their offense with precision to get off good, high percentage shots. And Popovich orchestrates it all. He makes average players look good and never lets a player detour from the game plan.
