How long before the NFL starts to investigate this little transgression? I guess he thought the T.O. was getting to much attention...

Moss admits to mar1juana use 'every blue moon'

NEW YORK -- Oakland Raiders receiver Randy Moss admits he has used mar1juana since entering the NFL seven years ago and still smokes it "every blue moon."

"I have used, you know, mar1juana ... since I've been in the league," Moss said in an interview for HBO's Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel scheduled to air Tuesday night. "But as far as abusing it and, you know, letting it take control over me, I don't do that, no."

When pressed whether he still smokes mar1juana, the star receiver with the checkered past said: "I might. I might have fun. And, you know, hopefully ... I won't get into any trouble by the NFL by saying that, you know. I have had fun throughout my years and, you know, predominantly in the offseason.

"But, you know, I don't want any kids, you know, watching this taking a lesson from me as far as 'Well, Randy Moss used it so I'm going to use it.' I don't want that to get across. Like I say ... I have used (mar1juana) in the past. And every blue moon or every once in a while I might."

Moss's agent, Dante DiTrapano, said HBO was trying to intentionally damage the player's reputation. He said Moss was talking about past use in the interview.

"In an attempt to promote their dying network, they have maliciously couched his remarks in a manner that is confusing and leaves room for negative interpretation," DiTrapano told the Associated Press. "Randy is not in the NFL substance abuse program and has complied with all urinalysis required by the league, the team, insurance companies, endorsers, etc."

HBO spokesman Ray Stallone said the network had no reaction to DiTrapano's comments.

"It's worth noting that the portion of the interview to which Mr. DiTrapano appears to be referencing was complete and unaltered," Stallone said. "We believe Randy's remarks speak for themselves."

The NFL's drug policy calls for up to 10 tests a month after one positive result. A second violation results in a fine equal to the player's salary for four games, a third in a four-game suspension, and a year's suspension for a fourth violation.

Moss has never been suspended for violating the league's drug policy and NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said it is confidential whether the receiver is in the drug program or not.

"We evaluate all conduct related to substance abuse and it is handled confidentially by the doctors," Aiello said.

Moss was traded from the Minnesota Vikings in early March. He was limited by a hamstring injury last season and finished with 49 catches for 767 yards and 13 touchdowns. It was the first time in his seven seasons that he didn't reach 1,000 yards receiving.

Moss has had problems on and off the field throughout his college and pro career. He lost scholarships at Notre Dame and Florida State because of a battery charge and mar1juana use. He set records at Marshall and clearly was the most dynamic receiver in the 1998 draft, but lasted until 21st overall because of his past trouble.

Last year, Moss was fined $10,000 for pretending to pull down his pants and moon the Green Bay crowd during Minnesota's playoff win. He also drew criticism for leaving the field with 2 seconds left in a regular-season loss against Washington.

Other transgressions include bumping a traffic control officer with his car in 2002, verbally abusing corporate sponsors on a team bus in 2001 and squirting an official with a water bottle in 1999.

I hope he smokes before playing the Texans so maybe he's more interested in donuts or something.

Yeah considering he lost a scholarship offer from Florida State because of a weed conviction.

Usually I thought getting busted for pot would guarantee you for a spot on the Noles' roster.

Let me just start by saying i’ve been a huge fan of Moss since his days at Marshall. Moving on ~ now why on earth does he come out and admit to smoking weed? Everyone knows he does it - but coming out saying, "yes, I smoke dope" just opens the floodgates to investigations by the NFL.

Investigations by the NFL lower his fantasy value ~ does this transgression move him down to round 3 -- inquiring minds want to know...

Seriously, why don't they just go ahead and legalize the damn thing. I know too many people that have done it/ still doing it. I don't, but I don't really see how it would hurt people more than alchol by legalizing it .

    Moss admits to mar1juana use

    The News

Five-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Randy Moss admitted to occasional mar1juana use in an interview that will air Tuesday on HBO's "Real Sports with Bryan Gumbel," the Associated Press reports. "I have used, you know, mar1juana...since I've been in the league," Moss says in the interview. "But as far as abusing it and, you know, letting it take control over me, I don't do that, no. I might [still smoke mar1juana]. I might have fun. And, you know, hopefully...I won't get into any trouble by the NFL by saying that. I have had fun throughout my years and, you know, predominantly in the offseason."

    Our View

Apparently, Randy was tired of seeing Terrell Owens' name in the headlines. While we appreciate the fact that Moss was blunt regarding his recreational habits, he may take a hit from the NFL's substance abuse policy. Of course, Randy would probably argue that it's not called the substance "use" policy. Moss has never been suspended as part of the NFL's program, but a Vikings' team source told Fanball that he'd be shocked if the receiver wasn't already under surveillance. According to the AP, Moss wouldn't miss time in any sort of substance-abuse suspension unless he's proven to be in violation of the policy on three occasions. Moss is sure to hear from the NFL, and we'll update you with the fallout.

imagine a world where everyone is toking up. NO work would ever be done.... Denny's would instantly become the world's largest restaurant. Visine stock shares will skyrocket.

Ironically, world peace will be achieved at last...

You know, I heard, you know that, you know, mar1juana use, like, can lead, you know, to the use of, you know, bad grammar and stuff...

    whatever!

For the kind of pounding and abuse those NFL robots put on this bodies (especially their joints) it will make sense that over 50% take a "calming drug" like mar1juana.

Football is a mean sports and I will not begrudge any athlete that takes something to be able to through the grind of 20 games + season.

Now if NFL and MLB (Roid) want to cut down on these thing (if they think it really is a "problem"), they must consider out-sourcing the testing process to an independent body. In the NFL's case, they can pull this off since the NFLPA is not that strong.

But in all I really do not see why this Moss revelation is a big deal. I am not sure if I am less surprised because it is Moss or because the druq is mar1juana.

Is HBO in financial trouble? They seem to make so many good series, and they are just starting a new one with Rome. Is HBO really a dying network, or is DiTrapano talking out of his ass?

Just because it's illegal doesn't stop people from doing it. If you do it then you do it... if you don't then fine as well. Legalizing it doesn't mean the whole "world" is going to do it. Anyways, it's a smokey, sticky, whatever situation and I'm sure many people have different viewpoints. But back to the subject wtf was Randy thinking when he said that? It's surely not surprising that Randy smokes but to openly say it and stir up drama is stupid.

Ok, I don't think anybody should be surprised or give a damn that Randy Moss smokes weed. It's not like it enhances his performance on the field. The thing I don't understand, why the hell would he come out and say that? And then be surprised that everyone is asking him about it afterwards? I get the impression Mr. Moss isn't too smart, but I'll save final judgment until I watch Real Sports next week.
