ok i know we traded him to the sixers, did he leave on bad terms? and 2- did the rockets give him a 10 day towards the end of his career? i could have swore i saw him in a game and the crowd cheered him in garbage time.
As I recall - it has been a few years, but I believe it went down like this: He wanted to be paid, Rockets did not want to pay him as much as he thought he was worth. Ultimately a deal was worked out for a sign and trade with the Sixers. DD
And people continue to bash Les Alexander claiming the previous owner was some kind of genius. The same owner that nearly lost Olajuwon to the same fate. Clowns...
If I remember right the Egyptians traded him to the Jews (his home team anyway). He during his career (he was trying to bring the Jews to the promissed land) he; parted the Red Sea, lead the Jews out off the oppressive shadow of the current division juggernaut Egypt (Egypt wanted to keep Moses but he demanded a trade... much like McGrady), had a meeting with a burning bush which lead him to create the 10 commandments. Though he never lead the Jews to the promissed land he did get them started on the right path and later they drafted his son who finally got the job done.
Yeah, they didn't want to pay him and figured he alone would not be able to lead them to a championship. So they traded him away and tanked. The result? Two consecutive #1 picks for the first ever bona fide twin tower Sampson-Olajuwon.
Maybe he got into an early season game between Rox and Spurs where he got an ovation? From Wikipedia: In 1994, Moses Malone was sent to the Spurs, where he played the back-up center role behind superstar David Robinson. 1994-95 was his last season in the NBA. During the final game of his NBA career in a game against the Charlotte Hornets, he hit a buzzer-beating three-point shot from the opposing free throw line, eighty feet away from the goal. It was only the eighth three-pointer of his career. He played just 17 games for the Spurs, all in November and December of 1994.
