Press Release - Philadelphia 76ers Head Coach Maurice Cheeks announced today that Moses Malone has been added as an assistant coach. A former Sixers player, NBA Hall of Famer and a three-time league MVP, Malone will primarily work with the team’s big men, after spending time as a team consultant last season.

Selected to the NBA’s 50th Anniversary All-Time Team in 1997, Malone averaged 20.6 points and 12.2 rebounds in his NBA career and 22.1 points and 13.8 rebounds per game in the postseason. A 12-time NBA All-Star, six-time All-NBA selection and a 2001 Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame inductee, he still owns the league record for most career offensive rebounds (6,731).

Earlier in the day, they also added Jim Lynam

He should've been here on the Rockets staff.

I'd like to see Moses here.

Good for Moses-I bet this will work out fine for everybody.

Props to you big man-thanks for helping teach Hakeem how to play against a big power player.

Hopefully he has taken elocution lessons since the days of "fo', fo', fo'". It is sometimes hard to understand Yao or Dikembe, but at least they have the escuse that English is a second language (or in Dikembe's case 6th?).

Mo was harder to understand than Yao and Dikembe put together.

I hope it works out for him. Moses Malone played with something that cannot be taught: Relentless effort and incredible offensive rebounding instincts. If he can communicate those to Webber and Dalembert more power to him. But those guys just aren't wired like he is. Plus, Mo Cheeks doesn't seem to have the full respect of the Sixers' players. It could get messy. I probably won't start another "Philly is Burning" thread this year but I can't see them making much noise.

Like I said, hopefully it works out for Moses. From Billy King to Mo Cheeks to some of the players, it's a dysfunctional situation to step in to.
