For everyone who are proposing trade ideas, think of this hypothetical situation, imagine last summer if Ron Artest has a contract signed through 2011-2012, does Morey make that same deal? I am 95% sure that he doesn't, the only reason the Artest trade got done was because Artest was an expiring contract, and therefore low risk if he didn't pan out. if we are talking about trading mcgrady's contract, which at this stage has NO BASKETBALL value other than an expiring, I just don't see him taking on high risk trades like Magette/jackson, wallace/diaw, or baron davis, it totally goes against his MO. I think the most likely deals are for 2 year left deals for people like Carter, Redd, Jefferson, Kirilenko, it basically gives the team in question a chance to get in on the 2010 FA pool, but I seriously doubt that Morey will take on anything more than 2 years in contracts because of the huge risk it involves.
Well what are some possible trade scenarios that fall under Morey's MO? I think that the trades he makes will be dictated by whether or not Artest resigns with us. Since majority of teams cannot afford to go over the MLE, and those that can afford it are saving it for 2010 offseason, I think it is highly unlikely that Ron leaves. He will have to settle for a smaller deal. Sooo, if Ron comes back, I think we can trade T-Mac for some very high quality role players. We don't necessarily need another allstar, not with the way that Brooks is developing. If we were to get an allstar (current former or borderline) it's probably a good idea to trade Brooks in the deal as it will cause issues with our team. However, trading Brooks will probably come back to bite us in the ass.
Since Tmac's contract is an expiring contract, trading him for role players means that essentially you are trading for role players with long term large contracts. This is exactly the kind of strategy that gets teams in trouble, you look at any team that falls from contender to lottery and you will find the same pattern, teams giving large long term contracts to role players. The rockets do not need role players, they have good role players at nearly every position, what they do need is a legit offensive star to pair next to Yao, and Ron artest is not it.
So far Morey haven't let us down. most of his trade or signing were low risk and a possibility of high reward.
i think the most likely trade for tmac is vince carter+ josh boone + pick(s) of some sort. we get a 2nd option, a backup center and picks.
hey guys i would of started a thread for this but i cant because im a rookie..anyways just wanted to put this pic of super VON w a really hot ass girl http://thedirty.com/2009/05/14/von-wafer-loves-choking-out-ninja-style/
If that trade goes down it won't be a Rod Thorn trade, it will be a owner to owner trade. Basically it's a save money trade and a 2010 FA trade, Rod Thorn won't do it, but the owner will, especially if the financials don't look good.
If that's the case, then the lowest risk would be NOT trading tmac this offseason. You let him rehab back, hope he comes back earlier than later, try him out, if it doesnt work then you trade him at the trade deadline, which is probably when you'll see some crazy trades
but out of all the guys you mentioned, i can only see him going after Carter because he's somewhat similar to Tmac and even with the all around talent we have, i think Les still craves that type of player.
I don't see anyone who is better than Vince Carter being available anytime, i mean vince is just a step below a franchise player, he has been no 1. option on his team his entire career, and he still has some gas left. The only players who are better than vince are all franchise players who are untoucheable.
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=pkj66c Houston sends TMac to Milwaukee for Redd and Salim Stoudamire I just returned from woodrow's in the village so am unable and dont care enough at the moment to think of this from Bucks perspective so will stick to Rox perspective which I believe fits the Morey MO u described. Redd is legitimate scoring threat and his 3-pt threat will stretch the floor and allow Yao to both get the ball and maneuver more easily. He would also make Artest the 3rd scoring option which is where Artest has proven he belongs. Redd's presence also would be beneficial to our PG situation. If Lowry develops into our starting PG and matures into a play creator and efficient feeder of Yao in the post, it would add more value to Lowry without him having to develop a jump shot. This would also allow Brooks to come off the bench and be free to create for himself and secondly for others. I think Brooks is a scoring PG and thus Redd would allow him to be more of a scoring PG off the bench. Even if Brooks remains our starter, having Brooks and Redd as 2 good 3pt shooters would be awesome for the inside-out game thru Yao. So i see him as a win-win situation for whatever happens to our brooks/lowry thing going on. Redd has 2 yrs left on his contract and would not be a long term commitment. Stoudamire is obviously in this proposed trade just to make the $ work but he also has only 2 yrs left. Based on the great post explaining our cap situation in 2010 by BimaThug HERE , the ~3 mil we save on this trade would give us about 7 mil for the 2010 FA market. While not enough to land a big name, this would still double our space to maneuver vs. if we kept tmac and redd wouldnt be a significant downgrade if any. Doubling the amount that Morey has to maneuver with by having Redd instead of TMac seems like a good opportunity IMO. Whatever happens, In Morey I Trust. Go Rox!
Also the only competition for vince are Sacramento, Chicago, and Cleveland, they are the only teams who can put together enough 2010 expirings to trade for him, and I don't see Sacramento doing it. So that leaves Chicago and Cleveland as possible Carter destinations if he is traded for expirings.
You're fighting a bttle you can not win here. There will be trade sugestions that will make you say what it happens every year. With TMac expiring contract you will hear people talking about trades for 4 to 5 players or a superstar that a team will not be giving up because thats their franchise player. Trust me it will get on your nerves just laugh at it like I do every year.
I don't know if it's just about "low risk". I think adding a Ron Artest to any team can't be considered low risk simply because when it comes to acquiring Ron Artest, you're acquiring more than a basketball player or a contract - you're potentially messing with team chemistry. On the contrary, prior to this season, most would've considered acquiring him to be high risk regardless of his contract situation. I think Morey looks for value and will swing for the fences if the probabilities are in his favor. Oftentimes when making a decision, you aren't necessarily trying to guarantee a right or wrong decision, but swing probability heavily in your favor. If you listen to Les' comments about being willing to go over the luxury tax if it's for an impact player who will put us over the top or Morey's comments that they aren't just going to look for a backup for Yao just to have a backup for Yao, you can tell how important value and probabilities are to them. Morey's already stated that they would rather switch to smallball when Yao's not available than sign some random 7-foot guy because he's a 7-foot guy who can backup Yao. One thing I see more teams, and especially Morey, doing nowadays is acquiring pieces that can be packaged or that don't necessarily handcuff you for future moves. I wouldn't preclude Les or Dork Elvis from swinging for the fences if the piece(s) presented itself.
I know that. Richard Jefferson is the Shane Battier of offense. And I would absolutely give a right arm and leg to get him if I were Morey.
