Ric Bucher reported on one of the ESPN shows that Les wanted to dump payroll because of our lack of success. He never talked about which players but the obvious candidate is Snyder, whose dumped contract would bring us below the tax and seems easy to move. Of course the player everyone wants to get rid of is Mike James, but he's unmovable without taking back another bad contract. Keep in mind that dumping payroll and rebuilding are two different things, I don't expect Les and Morey to be actively seeking suitors for Alston and Battier.

Thanks for the report...i hope we do not get rid of either rafer or battier, we def need them for now...getting rid of snyder would be a smart move though

It will be interesting to see if this is ever confirmed. It wouldn't surprise me at all considering Les is probably very angry that Adelman didn't transform this team into the run and gun, ticket selling, bad mama-jamma team he has been obsessed with for a few seasons now.

Ya I watched this to..I think it was NBA Coast to Coast. Dumping Snyder makes the most sense, since he seems to be getting the least minutes of all the players, including the rookies.

Or you could just trade Mike James + Future 2nd round pick to Golden State for part of their Jason Richardson TE.

Everyone really liked the trade at the time, myself included, but Juwon and his expiring contract are looking good now. We could have turned Juwon's expiring contract into a rotation player next year.

Two other guys that can be moved easily are Bonzi and Francis, you have to believe they have more value than James and Snyder. I think Snyder has no value, but is movable, while you would have to give up a 1st rounder to move James (like the Glen Rice to Utah deal). I wonder what Bonzi and Francis' worth is.

I don't blame Les. If the Rockets don't make a strong move the next 7-8 games, it's time to cut bait and plan for next year. I would hate to see them give up on making the playoffs but I'm not cutting the payroll checks. MJ and Shane probably top the list of players to be traded. They should keep Rafer unless Les wants to just tank the season. Dumping SF, Snyder, Bonzi, etc won't save the team much money. For this summer, the big decision is Tracy.

Nobody is going to take Mike James's ass off our hands for a Trade Exception or expiring contract without Les giving up a first round pick.

Les might just do that, too. Remember Glen Rice?

If it was that easy Knicks wouldn't have any bad contracts.

EXACTLY how much over the luxury tax threshhold are the Rockets?

Assuming that it is less than $1.7M, then the following trade may make sense:

Rockets trade: Kirk Snyder + cash
    for
    Bobcats trade: Ryan Hollins

Since the Bobcats are below the salary cap, they can take on more salary than they trade away. Les Alexander can throw up to $3M into any deal, so the Rockets could essentially pay for Snyder's $2.358M salary themselves. The luxury tax savings, however, would be much greater. Plus, the team gets a young center to either develop, send to the D-League or just waive.

obryant stinks to the high heavens. we are barely over the luxury tax. we took some calculated chances. some have worked, some have been ok, and some havent worked out but that is how it goes. les should not get weak minded and dump salary, he should look to add talent to our core!!!! hes got a top 10 coach of all time, a hall of fame center, a talented but often hurt 2, and alot of other exceptional role players. we can win it all in the next two years. sa is slowing down big time, phoenix is getting old, dallas is not nearly the force they were last year...its there for the taking....

On the face of it, that looks like a great idea, Bima. Assuming the Bobcats have no plans for Hollins, why not?
