Morey seems to know what's best for Adelman more than Adelman himself

2 years ago, the Rockets were on pace to win yet another 50+ games, led by a veteran PG whom Adelman played 33 minutes while a 2nd year young PG just came off the bench for minor minutes. Adelman liked his rotation, stuck with it, despite Rafer Alston being just terrible. So Morey traded Alston forced Adelman to start Brooks, and made a newly acquired youngster Lowry the backup. The Rockets went on to almost knockoff the champions.

Fast forward to today. We have two rotation players Adelman absolutely LOVES, while their production have been average to just plain horrible. Again Morey gets rid of the deadweight, giving breathing room for Budinger and Lee, acquiring a PG who doesn't beat the ball to death in Dragic, and suddenly the team shows life.

One problem that even fans in Sacramento have had with Adelman was that he's adamant about his rotation. He hates to mix it up. So while many may feel that Adelman and Morey don't get along, I think they do. Morey may force Adelman's hands at times, but that's why you have a GM and a coach as separate entities. And I think in the end, it helps Adelman that he's not the one making personnel decisions.

That original starting lineup sure wasn't working. They were only +162 in 796 minutes.

I'm not sure what your point is. Brooks is not a starter. Hence I used the word "average" for one player, and "horrible". You can surely figure out which is which.

And secondly, Battier's minutes are now distributed between Lee and Budinger. Are you saying that distribution of minutes make our team worse? If so, please explain. Thank you.

I think both were banking on Brooks to get it together whether to make the Rockets better or to open up trade opportunities.

I'm not sure his love was that absolute. In one of the last two games Brooks had for the Rockets he delivered one of his special turnovers. Adelman's spirit looked completely drained with a extended hand-over-face reaction.

Adelman HAD to play Brooks. He basically had no choice.

Even though he'd been playing horribly season, he'd done enough to win the respect of his teammates. I believe that AB is a pretty stand-up guy, but he probably would've been pretty upset with being out of the rotation completely. It would most likely cause more disruption than playing him.

Adelman HAD to play him, and likewise, Morey HAD to trade him.
