Trust me, stay FAR away from this guy. He literally has a little marble rolling around inside his head and his antics, immaturity and flat-out boneheaded misdoings are all still fresh in my mind. Best of the luck to the guy in getting it together but I have a strong feeling this is the type of player that's only in it for a paycheck. Considering our history with some of these boneheads like Eddie Griffin (talented but troubled, from SHU no less) and recently with Joey Dorsey (get paid, stop caring), I think it's wise to look elsewhere if we plan on scooping up any second rounders.

I couldn't have said it any better. He may be a vicious rebounder, but he doesn't have near the maturity or work ethic of DeJuan Blair.

He single-handedly destroyed Seton Hall's prospects in the NIT after punching a Texas Tech player in the nuts a mere five minutes in to the opening game of the tournament.

I cite Vernon Maxwell... If you can get him cheap, it might be worth the risk to atleast take a look at him in camp...

But, I do no think Herb Pope is a very good player even If he had the right attitude. We can do better, there will be a TON of good second round prospects this year with the lockout looming...

Great point. But I still think he deserves a chance.

I was so impressed by Herb Pope's high school resume and his potentials. And I was told by my friends that Herb is not Eddie Griffin type of guy at all. Sure he is not mature enough, but he tried his best to stay away from bad influences. With a great Coah Rick and super positive influences from Yao, Shane and Chunck, Pope will develop into a decent player, at least a taller version of Hayes.

You're talking to a Pittsburgher here. For every accomplishment he had in HS you heard a negative story about his attitude, immaturity and decision making. Hopefully, that's all a thing of the past and supposedly Darrelle Revis (another Aliquippa, PA native) is "mentoring" him. Now, whether that's just a feel-good story for Revis or an attempt to make Pope sound like less of an idiot, I don't know. All I do know is Pope carries quite the baggage and strikes me as the type that will get paid and become complacent.

I hope he does well but he's not NBA ready at the moment. He can rebound and score a little, but his overall game lacks refinement and experience. Clearly, I'm alluding to him needing another year or two at Seton Hall, however I understand the personal matters he's dealing with (i.e. children, relatives in prison) that are affecting his decision. He should do whatever is best for himself and his family. I just hope he realizes that second rounders aren't guaranteed a thing -- that his hard work and turnaround is going to go FAR past the draft if he is indeed going to earn a decent paycheck at some point. Like I said, best of luck to him but I clearly have my doubts.

Thanks for your 'insider' point of view.
Maybe I was too idealistic, just thinking good coaches and teamates can push a young man into the RIGHT direction.
