h:Best part of season? dm: cant think of a time with such a radical change in lineup offense with so much success h: anything you expected as better? dm: struggling on offense bc league figured us out. Defense is lacking. sustained effort required on us is draining. lack of a wade, etc. you dont have easy buckets coming your way h: are you trading for granger, iggy, bosh and martin? dm: yes, its all coming (joking) h: are mcgrady offers garbage? dm: no its been good but "final offers" come at the end. h: gut call on deal happening? dm: enough interest that deep chance something happens. Deals are hard to do anyway. pretty happy with discussions so far. h: would you dick over the jazz by sending mcgrady to NY for just expirings without getting a talent upgrade? dm: makes no sense to do that h: some college player question dm: yea I watch some h: playoff system change? 16 best teams maybe? dm: do it that way till east gets better then switch back! no, commissioner has it right. lot of really well run franchises in the west. h: mem and okc good? dm: okc expected, mem is surprising, but happy for wallace bc he is a good friend. thinks them, portand and houston all fighting for 8th spot. h: define a successful 2nd half dm: goal = make the playoffs, probably need 48 wins h: healthy lakers, who is 2nd best team dm: boston, clev, lakers have seperated themselves. den, dal, magic also to keep an eye on. !!
Sorry I should've put a link in the OP. Thanks Moes. Anyway not too much to recap so I won't bother as they will probably put up a podcast of it sometime.
Here's a quick recap I typed up, but I was a couple of minutes late (approx. 3 min. missed): Morey was on his way to watch the UNC/Wake Forest game. Morey was asked if he had a "gut call" about the likelihood of a trade. He responded by saying that there's a lot of interest and that there was a "decent" or "50/50" chance of something going down closer to the deadline because teams want to wait it out and explore their options/finalize packages. He said he was "happy" with the discussions he has had with other teams regarding a trade. Then he was asked if there was a possibility of possibly sending TMac to the Knicks for some other expiring contracts + Cat's Insurance (also to sucker the Jazz out of a good pick since NY would get better). Morey responded that trading our expiring for a couple of other 1 year expiring contracts won't really help the team and that it's probably unlikely. Morey was then asked if he likes the current playoff system or if he wants to change it to the top 16 best teams, regardless of conference. He responded by saying that he supports the change until the East becomes better than the West . When asked who was more impressive this year between the Grizzlies and the Thunder, Morey said that both are doing well but even though the Grizzlies are doing very well right now, they have one of the most difficult schedules for the second half, so they will probably drop out of the playoff race. He also said that he sees the Rockets fighting OKC for that last playoff spot. He then said that the goal for this year is to simply make the playoffs, which would probably require 47 or 48 wins.
Thank you for the recap! I think his comments that a deal has already materialized, and they are just waiting for the deadline to end so they can finalize it. One thing that's telling though is that Morey has a rep for making "bad" trades (as in so bad for the other team that they don't consider it). If he's happy with the deal then it must be somethign spetacular. I'm hoping for the Bosh and Iggy wetdream
sounds like the trade will be held out until right before the deadline b/c no team wants to needlessly pay stacy's salary for the month between now and feb 18
Ed Davis is out (injury). Aminu, yes, I could believe he's scouting. His rebounding this year has been off the charts. I wouldn't be surpised if Ishmael Smith catches Morey's eye, as well. He can't shoot his way out of a wet paper bag, but is lightning quick, smart with the ball, and absolute hell to keep out of the paint.
