Morey was on 790 this morning and while most of the conversation was just back and forth banter and largely irrelevant, some interesting notes: 1) Team is likely to move from their draft position again as they like to maximize assets. Whether up or down or out is unclear. 2) Team will definitely pay luxury tax next year. 3) Team will definitely use the MLE this offseason. Edit: Also said that the entire MLE will be taxed. 4) Les has given Morey the go ahead to take on big contracts if need be to get a star player. He is all in and only asks that Morey "be smart" with the money, but has given him no limitations. The question was obviously a reference to Turkey Glue.
I will believe it when i see it. Taking on hedo's contract is bigger than what people think. Getting to the 20m mark in salaries to do a sign and trade with the rockets is almost impossible minus a 3rd team. Involving that 3rd team means the rockets will give up some lke landry again.
I agree with your stance, but I'm just reporting what was said. Morey was obviously being asked about a guy like Turkey Glue and he was very clear that the Rockets are not afraid to take on big money to get the guy they decide they want.
I heard him this morning but I wouldn't put much stock on it. Les says he'll pay the tax every year to get better yet finds a way to duck under every year.
? It made sense to duck the tax this year. The team was not a title contender. Do people really doubt that Les wants to win a title?
Man thats not a poison pill thats a brick. I dont think there is a team in the league who wants hedo except maybe portland. I would not be shocked if Morey found a way to work a three way that gets all parties what they want.
I don't doubt Les. he's great but I don't expect us to turn into the Cavaliers or Lakers paying the luxury and taking on Bad contracts. Morey wouldn't let it happen. He'd pass on Bosh if they tried to load him with Bad contracts.
I can't stand Turkaglo, the man called in sick and went clubbing, he's like a T-Mac with the injuries. It's not my money so I don't care if Alexander wants to waste his money on the guy, but I hope this doesn't mean the Rockets can't afford a backup center. CB4 sucks at defense, if Yao does not come back healthy there needs to be someone else who can defend the lowpost.
I'm sure that if the owner of the team is willing to put his chips all in with another guy playing his hand we should have at least as much confidence in him as well. Besides the key of that paragraph is the "being smart" with the money and for sure that is something we know that Morey is fully capable of. I also don't see the major hate on not wanting Hedo, he is highly overpaid but is a good playmaker and shot creator when in the right system as we saw in Orlando and Sacramento. Plus he's played in Adelman's system and flourished therefore will/would fit well. Looks like Les is telling Morey himself to "Get r done!"
Morey seems to follow the thinking that "the best way to reach your goals, is to help someone else reach their's". Not like some other gm's.
Les has never been ver the tax and he's had chances to upgrade the roster with the mle. The rockets has only used all the mle like 2 times. Not only that, show me how the rockets can get to 20m in committed salary which is need to take bosh and hedo.
Les hasn't gone over the tax because Morey made it so. He's never overcommitment salary with Morey so It's part Morey and Les. the 20 mil? Shane Battier $6,864,200 Jared Jeffries $6,466,600 Trevor Ariza $5,854,000 Jordan Hill $2,483,280 ----------------- $21.4 mil.
I have never heard them as adamant as they are now about being willing to pay the tax. I think they mean if it it means acquiring Bosh. As someone stated though, it would be near impossible to make a deal work involving Hedo unless Martin was included, and I don't think that is happening. That means you have to find a third team. At the end of the day I think it's unlikely that Hedo will be dealt with Bosh ... unless Bosh gives them a list of three or more teams, they aren't going to have enough leverage IMO.
FWIW, the guys on 790 also mentioned that Calerdon is a guy the Raptors might want to move and that the Hawks might be willing to move big contracts in order to rebuild if they lose Joe Johnson.
While Hedo is overpaid, he's way underpaid comparing to Rasheed Lewis. His impact is on par with R. Lewis when playing in Orlando. I would bite Hedo's contract if that's all they want. I would do something like:Bosh+Hedo+picks for Scola+Battier+Jared Jeffery+D Anderson. We got to keep the picks and our young assets and got their picks instead. But it most likely would involve a third team.
20 mil? where did you get this #? how much do you know to trade for bosh and glue? AT LEAST 27 MIL. if raptors insist and no third party involved, you better prepare for no bosh on this team.
No way you can give away Scola and Battier. These are two son of a gun that you won't find in any other players.
