Sorry, I'm no DaDakota but I caught the last part of this interview. Hopefully someone can fill in the blanks. -Caller asked Daryl about whether they were building this team to go after a big FA this offseason. Daryl said that they are always trying to stay one chess move ahead of the rest of the league. He says they will be able to add a FA in the offseason, but points out that the league is structured to allow teams to keep their own FA and inflict punitive damages on teams that go after FAs. (my note-sounds like he means revoking rights and stuff) Edit: Forgot to mention. He said that trade is the optimal way for the Rockets to add players to this team, not FA. -Caller asked Daryl about the PG situation. Wants to know when they are going to get a competent backup to push Aaron Brooks for playing time because right now Aaron just does whatever he wants because he knows his job is safe. Morey laughed a few times and then asked if the caller has watched them at all this year. Says we are playing tomorrow night and he should watch. Lowry has been really good. -Caller asked Daryl about whether T-Mac was going to be a punk like Iverson or if he'd accept 6th man role. Daryl says T-Mac is all about the team and winning and doesn't understand how T-Mac gets this reputation of being selfish. Says he just wants to get on the floor. Jokes that even though he doesn't like Jerome Solomon, Solomon nailed it when he said only T-Mac could find a way to get criticized for trying to play. -Caller asked about the team trying to get an athletic big that could play defense. Mentions Marcus Camby. Morey says that he knows what the team's weaknesses are and they'd love to add a center who could run the floor, rebound and block shots, but those guys make a lot of money and other teams like them. {missed the leading question} Morey is talking about the Suns and how Stoudemire looks fantastic, totally rejuvenated. Says he thinks we'll have a better chance against them because our team will have the ability to scout them. Hope you enjoy.
Thanks Justtxyank I was looking for this and was suprised not to see...pretty interesting items were brought IMO. I am glad he finally confirmed what most of us have known that a trade will probably be the way to go and not free agency.
Thanks for sharing. Basically DM is saying: 1, extremely hard to land an all-star FA 2, He and the coach are satisfied with our pgs 3, Tmac will play 4, he is still looking for a cheap big
He was very defensive of McGrady. He also pointed out that while they should have been on the same page about McGrady's injury (the team and McGrady) there shouldn't be any backlash against McGrady for wanting to get on the court. Daryl kept stressing the fact that McGrady is all about the team and just wants to win. My thoughts: Of course he is saying that. Whether it's true or not is hard to say. McGrady has reason for wanting to be on the court, and it doesn't necessarily involve the Rockets winning. He is a free agent at the end of the year and he needs to reestablish value. As for Daryl, he has reason to hype of McGrady's team first attitude and downplay any selfishness; trade value.
i felt morey meant it in his tone. sometimes one can just be nonchalant and say things just to say things (and you know daryl can be pretty calm in his speech). but 2 topics that really got morey aroused were: tmac and lowry. like you said, he was extremely defensive of mcgrady, and was extremely surprised at the caller saying we have no backup PG.
? How so? He repeatedly talked about McGrady "just wanting to play" only caring about the team, criticized fans for giving McGrady a bad rep, jokingly talked about how wrong Solomon usually is but still right to defend McGrady, washed over the "difference of opinion" about McGrady's status, said he would do whatever it took to help the Rockets win when asked about being a 6th man... Reading too much into it? The #1 topic in the interview was how great he thought McGrady was.
From what I have heard. Morey has been obsessed with Lowry for a long time and was more than likely willing to give up more than rafer for kyle.
The way he started laughing at the caller was priceless. Caller: We haven't had a good PG duo since Sam and Kenny. When you gonna go get a real backup point guard to push Aaron Brooks. Blah Blah DM: *Nervous, shocked chuckle* Host: Kyle Lowry had ten assists last night caller. DM: I think the caller hasn't watched us play this year. *more chuckling* We're on tomorrow night. You should watch. *even more chuckling*
Reminds me of the guy that wanted Schaub benched in favor of Orlovsky. Sometimes they're so dumb, it's memorable.
At the start of the season when asked about mcgrady, morey woud say all options are on the tbel and were allways activly looking to get better meaninghe's up for trade, but now he sounds more like he is inclined to keep tracy unless he gets a very good deal. tmacs faster then expected recovery may have something to do with that.
I don't know how they screen the callers, but they should at least make sure they know the names of the players. A caller last week was talking about "Kyle Landry" and they had to cut him off to ask whether he was talking about the guard or the forward
Why is it that all the freaking people that call into these shows want to talk about players we either don't have or that are injured???
I don't understand why callers never ask Morey more specific questions regarding their player performance evaluation. If called in, I'd ask him who's the best on the team at running pick and rolls and defending the pick and rolls. Which players do the best job at cutting. Who's the most efficient at shooting off screens. Stuff like that.
d, we need to fix that... next time we should call in. I get so frustrated listening to their asinine questions about tmac. Or the standard... how is Yao? Or what big guy are you going to trade for? UGH!
I would like to hear someone ask him about those too. I doubt he's going to give away anything interesting if we make the question too specific though...
