If the Spurs can get corey maggette for the mid level on just them telling him he will be a big piece to them winning a championship I have a problem with our office staff. http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_y...ug=aw-spursmaggette070108&prov=yhoo&type=lgns While no deal was imminent, Maggette would be expected to sign a multi-year deal for the mid-level exception, a move that would fulfill the Spurs’ desperate need for perimeter athleticism and scoring. Maggette would be leaving the Clippers, just as the team came to an agreement with Golden State free agent Baron Davis on a contract. With so much sudden salary cap space, the Warriors could be a threat to swoop in and take Maggette for themselves. The Boston Celtics have also shown serious interest in Maggette.
No cap room, not too much trade assets. All Morey can dangle are MLE & LLE. Sorry guys, Morey doesnt have too much magic.
Perhaps it has to do with trying to resign Landry... I would rather have Landry and another good player over Magette. Plus, he throws fits when he doesn't start
Magette is more important at this point than Landry. Or you can ask Magette to accept something like Francis did last year where he gets a 1 year contract with a player option the second year.
Who cares, seriously. If the Rockets can get Maggette for the mid level, resigning Landry becomes secondary. This would be a huge pick up for the Spurs. Isn't it clear by now that a team needs three studs.
i'm gonna guess there is about a 25% chance the spurs actually get him for the MLE. dude wants to get paid and he is injury prone. i see orlando or gsw upping their bids over the MLE for maggette.
With the Clippers set to sign Baron Davis and to re-sign Elton Brand, they will have to renounce the rights to Maggette in order to sign both stars. This means that no sign-and-trade deals can be done for Maggette.
Are you absolutely sure that you will get him though? This is not a trade we're talking about but free agency. I don't think it's as clear cut to say that if you can get him you do it because you don't know if you can. And if you do make a run for him and don't get him you'll lose Landry and Maggette.
Perhaps because the Spurs have won 4 championships the last 10 years and have TD, TP, Manu & Pop, while the Rockets haven't gotten out of the 1st round, Maggette sees them as a more attractive alternative. Can you even conceive of such an idea? Similar scenario for the Celtics. You remind me of the fruitcake here who blamed Les Alexander for not hiring Phil Jackson. It's as if the basketball universe revolved around Houston for people who have no connection to the Rockets at all. Speaking of having a problem, I have a problem with people starting stupid threads. I suggest you follow my course of action: Deal with it! If you are as hard on yourself as with the "office staff", you must have zero self-esteem.
not sure i like giving up a battier for maggette. i love what a maggette could do for us but he is brittle and plays weak d and he is a diva
The Rockets will not "lose" Landry if they make a run at Maggette and fail. The only way the Rockets would lose out on both would be if another team signs Landry to an offer sheet in the middle of our pursuit of Maggette, in which case Morey would make it very clear to Maggette that he'd need to decide within 7 days. If Maggette can't make up his mind in that time, then the Rockets would just go with the sure thing and match on Landry (unless it's a ridiculously expensive offer sheet).
Wouldn't the clippers be over the luxury tax if they sign and trade Maggette, after signing Baron Davis and Elton Brand to max contracts?
Houston Rockets still need to make a sales pitch for him. Let Landry walk with all the PF's we have on this team right now. By doing it this way we would keep battier so it will be a win win for us.
