He's not Chris Paul, but he has been able to step up when forced into that role. Does not shy away from the moment. We know with Beverly's style of play he is always going to be a liability. Kind of like a Gerald Wallace type. You already have Casspi and Garcia getting minutes, and you still go for Hamilton? Harden is amazing, but unfortunate the situation for him to come here happened after discarding Gogi and Lowri. Just a ferris wheel. Nets could easily have blown it up midseason but they stuck together and have won 15 straight at home now. Patrick Patterson is another guy who did not need to be traded. List is quite lengthy.
I think you missed Beverly in that '14 lineup  Need I say more LO.... You can take any top team and point out a time when they weren't so good. That Houston roster looked dreadful for 4 straight years. DM took advantage of opportunities that fell into his lap, but he like ALL OF US has weaknesses. Not unspeakable to point them out instead of selectively making an argument only a teenager would engage in.
Y'all are missing the point. DM HAS super powers, but he needs to make a small mistake once in a while so other GMs feel they have a chance to beat him.
Yes, because having the assets to GET Harden in the first place was ALL luck. Morey is very good because he CREATED the circumstances that put the Rockets in the position to GET Harden when there were multiple bidders. If you don't have the money in the first place, you can't buy that great car when it goes up for sale. And remember, prior to getting Harden, Morey's #1 concern was to give him the *maximum* flexibility to acquire a Star. Maximum flexibility means flexible contracts, cap space, and draft picks. Morey built that arsenal and he used it when the time was right, and was able to put together a deal that other teams could NOT match. His moves *also* left him with enough cap space to get Dwight. If he didn't clear that cap space in the first place, he doesn't get Dwight either. No, Morey can't see the future. He didn't know that Beverley would tear his meniscus with 2 weeks to go in the regular season. So shoot him. That you would ascribe the Rockets' success to pure luck is a perfect example of small picture thinking. Nobody knew that Dragic would turn out how he has this season. He was far from spectacular last season. And Dragic was demanding a highly inflexible contract, one that would make it extraordinarily difficult to move for at least 4 years. Had Dragic not demanded a player option in the 4th year, I suspect Morey would have been happy to reach a reasonable agreement. All of last year Lowry was a head case in Toronto. The players called him out as "selfish" in the Raptors' player meetings, and he himself admits that he screwed up in Houston. How was Morey supposed to predict that Lowry matures vs becoming DMC v2.0? There are just as many players who never get their heads together in the NBA as there are players that do. Complaints like yours remind me of Spurs fans that bash Pops or the Spurs FO. They have NO appreciation for just how good they have it. Morey is one of the top GM's in the NBA. This is a fairly universal opinion among NBA fans outside of Houston. That you don't recognize it speaks more about you than Morey.
If you had made a good argument to begin with, people might have started to actually engage in a discussion with you. But basically you werde just saying that Morey is a bad GM and that everything good that happened was pure luck and everything else was bad and hurt the team. And the one example you cite to demonstrate his bad GM skills is a completely minor trade that involved two fringe rotation players. And it's great that you point out Sam Presti as a role model of how things should be done, when we robbed him of Harden to start building a possible championship foundation. So yeah, I would love to have a real debate with you, but you are making it pretty hard.
Agreed if it isnt a missing piece or a big gain I see no need for pointless tinkering...and YES we could use Brooks right now.
So we're gonna pretend his refusal to trade Asik didn't save us some games? I can guarantee you having Asik has won us more games than not having AB has lost us. The real problem is having Bev AND Dwight out. Those are our two best defenders.
This is exactly it. So many people don't want to believe this for some reason. Wait until this summer when Morey can actually round out the bench to his liking. Last time he was allowed to do that he got Asik, Lin, and Delfino who all (have) performed mightily during their time here (with the exception of Lin's streakiness). Don't forget last time we had two superstars Morey managed to get Ron Artest, Luis Scola, Aaron Brooks, Carl Landry, Von Wafer (he played extremely well as a role player while with us) and Kyle Lowry to be role players alongside them in the span of only two years. So everyone should probably calm down about him trading Aaron Brooks for the time being.
You are exagerating a bit but you have a point. Expect it to fall on deaf ears, I like DM, but some here literally suck his toes off. To those that say , "Who would have known that Bev. would have gotten injured!" To those oblivious people, how many times did Lin or Bev get injured and how many times did Brooks have to step in? It was quite a lot of games. You use past events to give you a rough prediction of the future, especially when it comes to injuries. That being said, the Hamilton trade wan't that bad. We needed a SF because Parsons is so damn valuable and he can't go down...the problem is that he's still playing HEAVY minutes.
Man. If Morey could have traded Yao and T-Mac for other players 2 years before their bodies gave out. But no he didn't do it. Stupid Morray.
With Brooks, we had 3 PG's playing well. At the same time Chandler Parsons was sitting like 6 minutes a game. A solid backup wing is what this team desperately needs, since obviously Garcia/Casspi/Brewer aren't/weren't cutting it. Can't fault Morey for trying to address an obvious immediate problem by blaming him for a hypothetical future problem. What if Harden had gone down? Would you be blaming him for not bringing in a backup SG? I mean, do we even have one? Would we start Garcia? *shudder*
Exactly. We have 3 starters out against a team that's won 14 in a row at home and have the best record in the East since the All-Star break and people are still upset that we lost a game that we should have won. That's how good Morey's moves have been.
If you're going to troll and pretend to be a dumbass, don't make it this obvious. Poor job of trolling there.
