    Race to the MVP

Yao is currently ranked 5th.Check out what they say about him.

Now check out what they say about #3 ranked Zach Randolph:

    Yao: 26.4ppg 10.4rpg 1.5apg 1.9bpg 53.2%FG 84.9%FT
    Zach: 25.1ppg 10.2rpg 1.6apg 0.4bpg 48.9%FG 83.1%FT

The only thing Randolph has on Yao is assists, and it's by a measly 0.1apg. Not to mention that the Rockets have a 10-4 record and the Blazers have a 6-10 record. How can they say "we need to see if the Rox can keep up with the Spurs and Mavs", yet they let Randolph off the hook with his team's losing record, and rank him HIGHER?

They even took a potshot at Yao here:

I mean yeah sure TD is still the best big, but jeez do you have to (subtly) put down Yao to say that?

alright I just checked again and it was last week's ranking... sorry

However, my point still stands. Even then Yao had better stats and his team had a better record.

Check out now who's number 3? The Germinator.

I can understand LBJ at the top since, well, he's the NBA's poster boy. I can also understand Boozer at #2,since he's doing really well and his team is at the top of the standings, and of course I understand TD, since he's TD and he has a better record than us, but Dirk over Yao?

Statswise, they are pretty even, but Yao has a slight edge on almost every category except assists and FT%.

Team record is also the same at 10-4, so why does Dirk get #3 and Yao STILL remains at #5?

And of course, they had to put this in:

    How is that Yao hate?

    Main Entry: hate
    Pronunciation: 'hAt
    Function: noun
    Usage: often attributive
Etymology: Middle English, from Old English hete; akin to Old High German haz hate, Greek kEdos care
1 a : intense hostility and aversion usually deriving from fear, anger, or sense of injury b : extreme dislike or antipathy : LOATHING <had a great hate of hard work>
2 : an object of hatred <a generation whose finest hate had been big business -- F. L. Paxson>

From the above definition from Webster-Merriam, if it was "hate", Yao wouldn't even be ranked.

5th is good enough and about where Yao belongs at this time.

The only thing that matters is W's and how far this team goes in the playoffs.

"Hate" may be a bit too far. Yao has received a lot of love from fans nationally and globally since his rookie season. It inevitably generates some jealousy or bitterness from so-called experts, who consistently don't give Yao credits that he deserves. They may not really "hate" Yao, but they will probably need MORE time to accept the fact that Yao is already the dominant big man in the NBA.

So I take it you didn't even bother to read my post? If so, please explain why Zach Randolph should be#3 last week, and why Dirk should be #3 this week? While Yao with his better stats and team record should stay at #5?

Is "hate" too much for you? How about I use a more politically correct "dislike"? Would that make it better?

Of course I realize that it's the wins that matter, but then again that's not what this thread is about.

if u guys read blineburry's blog about possibly the xenophobia that shrouds Yao Ming, then you'd remember good points being made about the only articles that praise Yao are written by white men. And seeing that this MVP article was written by a black man...idk jus sayin.

Could it be because Randolph doesn't have the height advantage as Yao has, and the Mavs have won 10 games in a row.

Height advantage? So you are part of the group that subscribes to the belief that since Yao is 7'6", then it's only normal that he average 26/10/2? Especially since all the former 7'5" and above players have done that... no wait...

Then maybe Iverson should be in there because God knows he has a height disadvantage and he's currently the league's leading scorer!

The Mavs won 10 in a row, that's all peachy, but then again they have a 10-4 record, *gasp* it's the same as ours!!!!

So how about you come up with a better reason than those?

if you're not joking that seriously pisses me off. that's the same piece of **** argument that dumbasses like reggie miller use to try and belittle his accomplishments. i guess all men of his size have been this good huh? maybe we shouldn't rate lebron so high because other players don't have his athleticism.

what harmless168 displayed is yet more proof of how anti-yao people are. even the compliments are back-handed and no other player gets such treatment. ranking randolph higher, while absolutely meaningless to anything, is just plain stupid and the guy should be embarrased.

Dirk is leading the league in PER by a fairly wide margin right now. And Dallas is on a 10-game winning streak. Not surprised he'd be ahead of Yao in the MVP race.

If that's the case, then why isn't Dirk ranked #1 then? His team has a better record than LBJ's Cavs, and he has a better PER than LeBron. Incidentally, Yao has a better PER than LBJ also, and his team ALSO has a better record than LBJ's team.

On a side note, Yao is #2 if you're gonna look at PER so...

    A better answer please?

I'm a big fan of Yao and I want him to do well and to be regarded highly. He has been a very good players for several years and been truly dominant for no more than 1 full season.

It seems a bit foolish and oversensitive to be arguing about the minutiae of one and every player ranking out there and to take every seemingly unfair placement so seriously with such a sense of slight.

I agree that he probably should be ranked higher than some of those listed above him, but it's really no big deal. It's still early, and if your sense of well-being is linked to how Yao is ranked by these random idiots and/or experts weekly, you are not going to be very happy. Yao is playing great and our team is winning. At least enjoy that a bit and take the rankings for what they are: the biased opinions of a few writers.

It was definitely hating on Yao if Zach Randolph was ranked ahead of him considering Yao's #s are slightly better and the Rockets W/L record were much better. I also think it's hating on a player when you constantly take jabs at him for no apparent reason. One mention can be okay, but they just keep taking cheap shots like he got blocked by Nate Robinson, he maybe the best center but Duncan is the best big man. Do they do this for any other player? I don't think so. It's hate.

this is the latest mvp race ranking
    http://www.nba.com/features/player_rankings_061128.html

    5. Yao Ming, Houston
PPG RPG APG SPG BPG FG% FT%
    26.4 10.4 1.5 0.6 1.9 .532 .849

    Last Week's Rank - 5 |
Despite the embarrassing rejection the 7-6 Yao received from the 5-8 Nate Robinson, the Rockets' center is still enjoying a career season.

    funny, a haha-funny :) :D

seriously, Yao is TOP 5 now. it's not a big deal to rank him at 5, and it doesnt matter who's above.

The thing is, why they say so?

I just like the fact that they have T-Mac at 15 after a very slow start.
