Philly showed class. Boston has class. Chuck had six ovations in Philly. Boston had a video at halftime showing Chuck in various stages of life and career - he could leap pretty good. They also presented him with a section of floor from Boston GArdens. It had a hole or something in it that supposedly represented one of the dead spots in the gym floor. They cheered loudly for Chuck and he spoke a few words about how much respect he had for the Boston Celtics. Obviously, I may have the order of events messed up but that was basically the halftime ceremony for Chuck. We miss you out there, Chuck! Get well soon. This is the kind of treatment he should have been getting all season. Instead of the undeserved boos in Vancouver, Portland and Phoenix (Phoenix of all places).
I agree with you, just a couple things to keep in mind. 1. Boston is a very historical city. They showed great class, just like in anything they do. Read Clutch's historical game about the Rockets 1st game to the Garden w/ CB. They gave him a standing O there! 2. Charles is a very loveable/hateable player. He is very polarizing. I guess it makes more sense for the teams in the East to pay him more homage than the West. Philly knew Charles needed to move on (they didn't have much of a future with/without chuck) whereas Phoenix didn't want Chuck to leave. Also many teams in the West have recent memories about Chuck (as a Rocket or Sun) knocking them off in the playoffs. Major props to Philly & Boston!
I don't disagree. Thanks. I think Portland, in particular, booed Barkley just to irritate us cus they know how much we hate Pippen and know we will be booing him in Houston. Unfortunate as only Pippen deserves the booing.
