Some people might remember that I once posted a link here to a thing called Cyberrider...well, I will be moving soon and want to get that thing to put it into my new apartment. It is this stationary bike that can be attached to your playstation and then you can play some games (like BMX or so) while riding the bike. Anyway, I was also thinking about getting a projector that can be hooked up to the playstation or a video recorder/TV or the computer... That way, you could invite some friends and play video games while looking at the really big screen... Also, one could download movies or buy them and then play them on the big screen as well...or watch sports events with friends. Does anyone have recommendations for a projector? I was looking at the LPX 100 from Iiyama, but I don't know much about this stuff.
I have to admit, the inner geek within me gives that a huge thumbs-up! But would the quality of your video degrade on a much larger screen?
We have one at the office we use for presentations. It can be hooked up to a computer, TV or any video source. It wasn't cheap if I recall correctly. If you don't get better input by monday I'll post again with the type and price of the one we use.
No, it looks great. We did it sometimes at the company in Denmark where I worked - playstation as well as presentations/movies. It is really like a cinema at home .
I've got an Infocux X-1, cost about $1000 at Best Buy. You can get it cheaper at Dell.com accessories, whenever they have their online coupons. They get down to around $800. It's a great budget projector, but you should test one out before buying one. Some people see "rainbows", which can be very distracting. I see them, but it doesn't bother me that much. Bulbs are expensive (~$300), but are rated to last 4000 hours. It's also a little noisy at ear level. I use it for Houston Texans and Rockets games, DVDs, and hooked it up to a home theater PC. It's pretty good for those. However, you have to have very little ambient light. Meaning, layers of curtains for your windows. I had some horizontal blinds and that wasn't enough. So, I put vertical blinds over those and it was much better. For an apartment, I think it's a great choice to get a projector. Some people buy screens, but I just project onto a blank wall. The picture is about 4 feet high, 6 feet wide. It's very compact and portable, and I don't have to transport a 150 lb TV around whenever I move. I have a little 19" TV for when I don't want or need the big screen.
Sorry, that's Infocus X1, and I remember they had a "demo" program once where they would mail you a projector and you had a week or so to return it. Of course, you had to put down a deposit.
If you go with a dlp projector from Infocus or HP, you should be golden. The new models get a good clear picture even with moderate light. DVDs look fantastic. You can see things you'd never see on a crt tv set. That's definately one of the cheapest and best ways to go for home theatre. Just hook your cable box or dvd/vcr with digital out to it, and you're good to go. Can also run computer to it, xbox, or whatever.
a good way to set the projector up is to suspend it from the ceiling on a little rack. The picture will look better on a reflective screen. If you want to go all bachelor pad, you can wire the projector and screen to descend at the touch of a button.
