If he's participating in full contact drills already, he will definitely be ready for training camp. Good news..

No, he mentioned 'full contract' workouts -- big, big difference.

Both feet, fully in contact with the floor, for the entire workout.

Basic summary would be that the foot itself is healed enough to permit him to train and play on it, but he also has to work himself back into NBA form.

great news, but it would be smart to remain cautiously optimistic

Was his left foot the same one he broke twice before the Rox drafted him?

Yeah, he broke one of his feet at least once when he was 17, 18. It is said he used to be able to jump much higher before that (Yao mentioned it himself in his biography that he once found himself looking down on the rim when he was try to dunk).

Too bad Pryuen got banned, otherwise he'd be able to give a definitive answer.

What I want to know is whether it was the same bone, and same foot, because if he has broken it 4 times, that would be a lot more telling.

[rquoter]"foot is doing remarkably well" ... "was absolutely giddy" ... "has been greatly enthused" ... "[owner] came away gushing" ... [/rquoter]

If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

I really doubt it was the same bone, otherwise it'd have been widely reported already. Also it maybe 3 times, not 4 for his foot (or feet). He broke his left foot in the ankle in the NBA twice at the same place because he had to wrestle much stronger defenders night in night out. The left foot is the pivot so it bore most of the beating. In the CBA he didn't play the same way. And he broke his foot before he played on the senior team.

BTW, the Rockets did have his foot checked before using the No.1 pick on him.

until we see yao play again, all this is non-sense.

he's been through too many surgeries for him to regain his old all-star level. at best, he'll be a 20-23 min per game type of guy and we just hope he can be extremely effective in those minutes.

if he can't do that, he'll retire.

but we will have ot wait until november. the team and yao just need to take it easy. we don't need him at the beginning of the season. take all the time he needs.
