Dixie Chicks Get South Carolina ResistanceDixie Chicks Get South Carolina Resistance

The Dixie Chicks controversy continues to grow. A radio talk show host in Greenville, South Carolina--the first U.S. stop on the trio's Top Of The World tour--has proposed an alternative concert on May 1, the night the Chicks are set to play there.

Talk show host Mike Gallager, who has not yet lined up an act for his proposed show, said he'll donate all proceeds to South Carolina military families, and anyone with a ticket to the Dixie Chicks (news - web sites)' show will get in for free.

Gallager explained, "Obviously, this is designed to send a message that it's not OK to run down our president during this time of war. They insulted their core audience. Country music fans are red-blooded, patriotic Americans who support our military and support our commander-in-chief."

Maines upset many fans across the country when she told a London audience on March 10: "Just so you know, we're ashamed the President of the United States is from Texas." She later apologized.

I hope no one shows up to the DC show...

It serves them right for trying to be on the left, far left...

If an opinion is worth stating, it's worth facing the consequences for doing so as well. What's the problem?

She, as well as anyone can have an opinion, but if you can't suffer the consequences, then you should keep your trap shut...:p

Forrest Gump says..."That's all I have to say about that.";)

Would you admit that the venue to express here opinion was a poor choice?

I would love to hear their reception in Austin.

I might go to the Houston show to see the opening act. I could care less about the Chicks. They don't even deserve my boos.

No. I wouldn't ask any celebrity, regardless of political persuasion, to not express their opinion when they can. If you had access to millions of people, and you felt strongly about something like this, wouldn't you be tempted to share your beliefs on that stage?

They have a right to their opinion, just like people have a right to boycott them. I just don't agree with the boycotting or with people saying "that's what they get for being left", etc.

For the life of me, I can't fathom not wanting to buy someone's product because they disagreed with me politically.

    Get a rope...jk :D

Here's what you wanted to hear..."You have the right to your opinion"...That's what's great about this country...

Am I correct in assuming your still going to support Mike Moore eventhough you disagreed with him???

I myself will not support him or the Dixie Chicks...That's the beauty of the whole thing, you have your opinion and I have mine...

    I'm out...

I don't think people in Mississippi consider Lubbock Dixie, although it technically is, culturally, maybe, maybe no.

    I never supported him before.

I still went to see Bandits and Tears of the Sun after Bruce Willis ranted about Al Gore being the devil, though.

Why not share it on a stage in the US first? Why share your opinion with foreigners first. That's just weak.

They have a right to their opinion, just like people have a right to boycott them. I just don't agree with the boycotting or with people saying "that's what they get for being left", etc.

It's not just being 'left', it's the specific topic they brought up (the President during a War), and the setting (international) that they brought it up in.

For the life of me, I can't fathom not wanting to buy someone's product because they disagreed with me politically.

I don't think that it's just disagreement about any ol' topic that created the problem here. People aren't reacting that way because they don't support a tax cut. Some people (rightly or wrongly) view the dixie chick's comment as anti-American.

Sorry. Maines is from Lubbock. The other two are from up North but I think they cut their teeth in Nashville. They all live in Texas now.
