Hey all, I've got a moral quandary for you. I need to give this some history. Chase Budinger's arrival to the Rockets coincided nicely with Mike Judge's last movie, Extract. For those who haven't seen it, Extract is about a man who runs a flavor extract company and his life falling apart around him. One of the big plots in the film is about one of his workers having an accident at the plant and losing a testicle. Yes, this is important. His name is Step. And he's a good ol' boy. Anyway, Budinger came to the Rockets right when this movie came out. My buddy and I give nicknames to pretty much everyone (Carl "Tooth" Landry) but we usually kowtow to their existing ones (Chuck Wagon, Stacy McLady, etc.) So we repeated this process with Budinger. Who came into the league right around the time Extract came out. And who, at the time, I only knew because Aubrey Coleman stepped on his face. We both love Step and have called him nothing else since day 1. Step is wonderful. But my question is Am I a total *** for calling him Step?
I'm not necessarily suggesting a nickname. I really want to know what y'all's opinions are. Because I am not going to stop calling him Step, and I kind of feel like a **** for it.
Thinly-veiled 'Hey, let's all call Bud the nickname my friend and I gave him instead of the one he's got!' thread. And yes.
No, but it does seem irrational to assign someone you don't know a name you made up that no one else is even familiar with.
I can follow that. It's weird, but we do this for almost everyone. Brad Miller is the New Scalabrine. Scalabrine is the Dirtiest, not because he's a dirty player. Just look at him. He looks positively swarthy. KG gets so angry before every game, he eats an entire ham. Everyone on utah is named either "This ***hole" or "That ***hole" We were talking about this at the Pacers game and whether we were totally, horrible awful for calling him that. No, I'm not interested in y'all calling him this. I really, honestly don't care.
and so it came to pass in those days ... the clutchfan-ites looked to their morals. and a BudSlinger "step"ped forth.
