Mooch signed for 4 years at 14 mill. The source was bskball.com so there is a little doubt, but I don't think they would flat out lie about a player being signed.
By the numbers....I'm in doubt, because the base salary number for a 12.5% raise is $2.947368m and so on. No matter what raise % I place in the equation, we get a very odd number. I've yet to see a player sign for a non-elegant starting salary except for people locked in by some league-mandated averaged number like Cuttino max'd out Early Bird last year. That said, there could be a bonus included in that $14m, which is hiding the base year salary number.
Moochie's contract is probably escalated. So he could make 2.9 whatever this year, then 3.whatever next, and so on...
Maybe, they just rounded the overall dollar amount off. Using RealGM, 4 years at $2.95 mill comes to $14,012,500.
drepper, where is the link. I've been over there and can't find anything except the message board discussing it just like us. Everyone is sourcing bskball.com, but where is the announcement. I can't find it. kidrock9, that is the "raise" I am referring to in my post. Hottoddie, Yeah, maybe. A bonus is more likely, imo. I'm just in doubt based on numbers and that I still don't hear any word on 610 radio, or find any written word at bskball.com besides someone in the msg board making the exact same statement as drpepper.
No way would I sign a backup guard who is going to play 14-18min a game 14million dollars. Rafer Alston would have been cheaper and can do just as well if given the chance.
All of these reports and lack of true confirmation may indicate Moochie is half of a sign and trade with Goden State for Marc Jackson and Mookie Blaylock or to Chicago for Guyton, Hassell and Bagarac. IMO, a Jahidi White trade is doubtful. Of course, it could signal a trade for Chris Mihm of Cleveland. There are all sorts of possibilities, but CD and Rudy know what they want and I, for one, have faith they will do good things for the Rockets.
Lil Francis, I'll write you down as someone oblivious to the fact that Moochie played 20 mpg last year without missing a game. Now, if Francis plays 40 minutes and 80 games, where are Moochie's other 12 minutes coming from... ...anyone? ...anyone?
No. Im sure Moochie can do the same thing on the playground. I just think he could have really help the team off the bench. He signed for the minimum with the Bucks and Moochie wants 14million.
There is a reason Rafer signed for the minimum and Moochie wants much more. Moochie is much much much better than Rafer.
Moochie is not worth anywhere CLOSE to $14 million ($3.5/season). I hope that a trade is in the works, because the Rockets just got ripped off. Backup point guards in this league are a dime-a-dozen. Shammond Williams still hasn't signed, and he'd be a cheaper, more economically feasible alternative. I hope that Les isn't dumb enough to give Mooch this type of ridiculous cash.
Much Much Much better? He may be better by a slim measure but Moochie is nothing special. The Rockets can still win without him. Shammond Williams would also be a better fit than Moochie. I think he is disturbing the team's chemistry by holding out like this. He's no Francis or Mobley so he should just go ahead and sign or leave.
While I'm not the biggest Moochie fan, does it really matter cap-wise, if we sign him to so much money? He deserves around 2 mill or so per year, but what difference does an extra million make? We won't be under the cap for a while, unless we're able to go on some unforseen fire sale. If Mr. Alexander is willing to slightly overpay his own players, then more power to him. I just hope this doesn't effect us in the future, with regards to the luxury tax, and Alexander's willingness/unwillingness to pay the tax.
Ok, Ok, Lets suppose that Franchise runs for Jordan's team, with or without MJ playing. Maybe the Rox want a little insurance. Moochie would be a good starting PG in my book. In no way do i want this to happen, nor do i really think it will, but you never know until Steve is locked up for years to come. With Mooch hanging around we would still be decent, Especially with Griff busting out. Now who in their right mind wouldn't want a good (not great) starting PG getting 3.5 Mill.
Mooch a starter, a good thing? Not unless you also think Walt Williams makes a good starter at SF. Moochie at best, is a good backup PG. He doesn't bring enough to be a full-time starter playing 30-35 minutes a night.
