The Los Angeles Clippers boasted one of the deepest teams in the league going into the NBA playoffs. They have two Sixth Man of the Year Award winners on their bench with Lou Williams, who has won the award three times, and Montrezl Harrell, who won the award this season.

Harrell, who is coming off of a calf injury that caused him to leave the NBA Bubble on July 17 and miss all of the seeding games, has been a real disappointment during the playoffs. His points per game average has dropped from 18.6 in the regular season to just 9.7 in the playoffs, and he’s been a real issue on the defensive end trying to cover Nikola Jokic.

On the Locked On Nuggets Podcast, hosts Adam Mares and Matt Moore explained why Harrell has lost out on a ton of money during these playoffs.

Matt Moore: Doc Rivers left Montrezl Harrell in there a really long time.. Every timeout I was like… he left Harrell in? At least spell him, try Zubac for a few possession and then go back to Harrell if you’re going to do that. He just left him in. Then Zubac comes in and you can tell the Clippers fans are saying ‘okay, okay, we’re still in this because we’ve got Zubac in.’ Yeah, he went -6 in the second half.

Adam Mares: Right, yeah… I think it’s funny man because all fan bases kind of complain about the same things with regards to their team. You can listen in to whoever lost a playoff series and oh, it’s the coach and this rotation and this key player. It’s not that they’re wrong because I think they’re right.

Montrezl Harrell has lost a lot of money in this playoffs because he’s a free agent this summer. The Sixth Man of the Year had an opportunity to really stand out but he’s been unplayable in these playoffs.

But I saw a lot of Clippers people saying ‘oh you can’t have Trez in there, you got to go with Zubac…’ No, Zubac is not guarding Jokic, nobody is guarding Jokic. Zubac is playing with Paul George and Kawhi Leonard, who make things difficult on the Denver Nuggets. But there is no matchup that is this guy or that guy… Now… Montrezl has been a real issue.

He has always been an energy, change of pace type player. He isn’t really a star player because he is very match up dependent.

Trezz isn't a playoff player. Clipper bloggers have been saying it for months. Harrell skill is playing hard, The problem is that in the playoff everyone plays hard. The guy is basically an undersize center who can't shoot and is a defensive liability. He's good for the regular season, but in the playoffs, he's BBQ chicken...

    EDITED:

I like the post above about everyone playing with energy in the playoffs nullifying his best asset.

well there are always plenty rox players that don't play hard in the playoffs each year, so technically we can use him.

I actually thought he worked great with Harden, but it's only because Harden thrives off of athletic roll man who can just dunk the basket.

But on the Clippers in the playoffs, he doesn't do much unless he gets spoon fed on the PnR, or simply over powers for an offensive put back which doesn't come as often in the playoffs.

He is a little bit like Westbrook feasts against crappy teams that don't play hard in the regular season.
