So I just finished playing a game of Monopoly... I need some clarification of rules...

I was doing reasonably well, but one of the losing players decide to give away all his assets to the 2nd best player for a VERY small amount of money (A monopoly of yellows with 3 houses on each for $300). This pretty much resulted in me losing the game, which brings me to why I started this thread...

When someone performs an uneven trade to form an alliance (even though, it's more or less a pseudo-alliance in this case), is it legal? Even if it is legal, do you think that's unsportsmanlike to do something like that? If people were doing this in every game, doesn't it ruin the spirit of the game?

I know I'm just ranting because I lost a game, but I can't help but feel that I got cheated.

    Pfth.

You should stick to Checkers. :p

Being doubleteamed in Monopoly is simple. By that point, you should already have a stranglehold on your opponents.

why is that his answer? his opponents didn't loan each other money...one sold assets to another for a ridiculously low price.

was the one who gave away the assets trying to avoid creditors?? if so it's called fraudulent transfer, and my firm deals with those cases a ton. you should really come see me. bring a check for a retainer. ;)

I would have tipped the table over and drawn a gun, and then started speaking like I was in a western calling people 'yellow bellied cowards' 'cheats'
    'slim', etc.

I'm not sure if its not legal, but it sure is unethical. To counter move that action, I would have picked up the game board, and smashed it over the head of the guy who was giving away his property.

It is definitely legal. In fact, making people like you is a major strategic aspect of Monopoly. Sometimes it's a good idea to make a trade that slightly favors the other party, because when that party is about to be eliminated, they will remember your kindness and help you out by selling you their assets.

About a year ago, I was hardcore into Monopoly and read tons of articles on advanced strategy. For instance, did you know that the most valuable properties (taking all aspects into account; initial cost, rent and frequency of landings) are the railroads?

    Here are some other tips:

    - the orange properties get landed on the most overall, although Illinois Avenue is the most landed-on property in the game
    - B&O Railroad is the most landed-on railroad
    - "Go to Jail" is the most landed-on space on the board
    - the properties before the "Go to Jail" space are much more valuable than the ones after it... so don't be afraid to give your opponent a green or dark blue monopoly in return for a red or yellow monopoly -- you definitely win that trade
    - build up to 3 houses as quickly as possible. You get a big spike in rent with 3 houses. Don't bother with 4 or hotels unless you have lots of money to burn.
    - be nice and don't trash talk. It will come back to haunt you when other players are about to be eliminated and decide to "help out" your opponents.

yall dont know how to play monopoly. first of all before he just "gives away" his yellows, he could sold some houses for some cash and mortaged. And if you sell a monopoly with houses on them, the houses come off, so the new owner has to buy his own houses. Or make him sell his houses before he trades his monopoly away for crap. My solution is next time dont play with ppl are gonna be gay like that...

when i was younger i used to play all the time and we used to play a version we called "SUPERMONOPOLY". it made the game go much quicker.

at the beginning of the game we divided up ALL the money and than held an auction for all the properites - we started w/ mediteranian and went all the way down the line to boardwalk. doing this replenished the bank pretty nicely.

after that we would do any wheelin' and dealin' with each other and buy houses/hotels than we were ready to play.

rather than a 5 hour game, this cuts it down to 2 hours tops.
