Make sure you dont have a fan or some other electrical device running near your monitor. My little desk fan was doing that and I thought it was time for a new monitor...but it was just the fan
Also make sure that none of the pins are bent or broken off... don't automatically panic if some of the pins are not all there, a lot of monitor cables have a weird config, but if some look broken off above the bottom part of the cord, you can probably just get it repaired.
Nope, no fan and all the cords are fine. I smacked it a couple of times and now it has a reddish tinge.
Ha-ha. Very funny. Seriously, I was surfing the web as usual when all of a sudden the display changed to a greenish-yellow tinge. I checked all of the cords and connections and they are all fine.
If you are hitting it and it is changing colors then the RGB cable may be loose. It is a cable that connects to the backof the CRT and controls the levels of (you guessed it) Red, Green, and Blue. You should probably take it into service, but whatever you do DON'T OPEN THE BACK OF THE MONITOR!!! THERE'S STUFF INSIDE THAT CAN KILL YOU!!! EVEN IF THE MONITOR IS OFF!!! In case that didn't come across correctly I'm not kidding... I don't want to hear about anybody getting fried.
In case anyone is wondering, it's a Sony Trinitron Multiscan 15sf. I have a guy that will sell me his 17" Nokia 446 Pro for $100.
sounds like you have given it a good smacking, maybe finish the job Pimp. for $100 i would probably buy the one off your mate, sounds like the tube is going to blow anytime soon.
This is like riveting television - I'm reading this thread entranced by the drama of the monitor unfolding..... I don't suppose degaussing would help? Worth a try anyway - you should find a degauss button somwhere near the other monitor controls.
Already tried that davo. No fixie. I don't get this thing because occasionally it will display fine for a second then go back to the red tinge or the lime green with the lines. I don't want to blow a bunch of cash if I don't have to. Is it safe to open it up and take a look?
I wouldn't open it up, and even if you did, what would you do? Unless you're a monitor technician, you're not likely to have any luck. You can seriously hurt yourself on some of the components inside that will hold charges for days, plus you can easily cause the CRT gun to become mis-aligned with the screen while removing and attaching the montior casing. It sounds to me like your connector is loose. Not the cable, but the port that accepts the monitor cable on the monitor. Smack that up a bit. No matter what, I'd bet dollars to donuts it's a loose connection in the monitor. Honestly, smacking it around a bit may really work. I wouldn't get too gratuitous with the violence, but it is money you don't want to have to spend. Sometimes brute force is a good fix
This same exact thing happened to my monitor a few months ago. I found out it was because it was overheating and not getting good ventilation.
