My problem is, I wonder why it only goes up to 1024x768?

My previous Sony Slimtop computer with a smaller LCD screen than I have now used to allow me to go up to 1600x1200 I beleive?

My computer is a Sony VAIO Slimtop PCV-LX810 with a 17" Screen -- 15" XGA TFT Multimedia LCD Display

I guess my video card is a cheap SiS 630 or something, judging by the properties shown in the image I have attached?

Is there a reason why my resolution capabilities are so bad? My previous computer (the SLIMTOP version before this one with a smaller screen, actually had higher resolutions)? Is there a reason for this?

Do I need a new video card to see higher resolutions? Won't some images look cleaner and better if I have the resolution up to 1280 x 960 or whatever the next one is?

What can I do about this?

    Buy a new video card?

Below is a link to the picture of my display.

It all depends on the capabilities written into the driver code.

and yes, the Sis line of vid cards are cheapies(quality-wise), so it isnt surprising that its capabilties arent too good.

If you are dissatisfied with that...either check to see if they have released a newer driver that performs like you want, or get a new one.

usually on the manufacturers website... or do a google search for your video card then drivers...

    like so: SiS, drivers
