I can't believe they are playing a football game in the superdome after 1 year. This is going to be an emotional setting. That place was torn up by the storm and more importantly people died in there. Should be a fun game to watch. Vick, Dunn, Deuce, Brees & Bush. The Seahawks are the team to beat in the NFC, but i'd put the Falcons at a close 2nd. Their defense looks solid and Vick is healthy and when Vick is healthy all he does is win. The guy is a winner. I look for the Falcons to win this game but with all the added emotion involved the saints could pull it off. I'm looking forward to this game. U2, goo goo dolls, and Green day will be performing as well. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/9680896 http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2589359
They should get rid of that god awful Superdome and let those bad memories associated with it die away.
Yeah that place is a dump, but they spent 186 million on it to fix it up. I don't know if i'd feel safe being in there who knows how stable everything is and if it will hold up safely with all those people in there.
What? This is a major step forward for the city of New Orleans. As someone who took relief supplies to the area shortly after the storm did it's damage, I saw first hand how important the Saints, the Bowl games, the Superdome itself is to the community... They need this to help put the bad memories in the past. I'm excited to see it take place. I hope it helps the city pick up speed in the rebuilding process. So much of the Gulf Coast (on over to Alabama) is Saints territory... so it really can encourage a very wide region in need of some sort of ray of hope. Even if they lose in the first game back, at least that first major hurdle is jumped. Go Saints! btw- It's not as if they didn't have the building fully inspected and tested to ensure that it is safe to be a sports venue again. Most of the money went to structural upgrades... many that were needed before Katrina even hit. The thought in the community there is that if the stadium is functional, it brings visitors, and that brings jobs, jobs bring citizens back... and so on. This is much needed.
Really looking forward to this game tonight. It will be great to see football in the Superdome again, after seeing some of the images of what went on there during the hurricane. It broke my heart seeing the Saints play 16 road games last year, and I don't even LIKE the Saints. Great day for the people of New Orleans. BTW, they're playing the Sugar Bowl in the Superdome this year, right?
are you talking to me about vick or them about the saints?? GO SAINTS!!! a great, great day for the city of NOLA. very happy for them. doesn't solve the long-term crap they're dealing with...but is a nice symbol for getting on with it.
They're going to help the city recover, of course. Or maybe they'll depress the city even more, listening to bands that haven't released a decent song in a good 10 years.
NO was the only NFL team to have a negative operating income last season. Hopefully that will change this year.
All the Texans fans are scared to watch and see what we missed out on in Reggie. I am from Atlanta, so I am all in on the Falcons. Best team they've had in years. I know it has only been 2 games, but Michael Vick looks like he finally gets it. I heard that New orleans has sold out all their season tickets this season. Does that mean that they are finally going to leave Houston and go back?
..also.. I think a better setting for the game would have been to schedule the Texans @ the Saints for the anniversary.. even if our team blows, its still a gauranteed win for the Saint boys on national tv.. and hey, why not reward HOUSTON for what it did with a national tv appearance for its fans? (or punish them, depending on your view point)
I'm actually pretty excited to see this game on a purely competitive basis. The Saints have looked pretty decent and it's really interesting to see the falcons offense. They run a lot of spread offense and zone read type plays that UT and Vince Young used to do. I always like it when there are more diverse offenses in the league and people aren't running the same west coast offense or some other standard NFL set. Plus the buzz of having two freaks of nature in Michael Vick and Reggie Bush is great as well. And of course, it'll be great for the city of new orleans to showcase itself on the national stage in a more positive light.
