Where am I? Wait....I'm in the BBS trying to figure what the hell just happened in that movie. Good flic. Interesting concept. Keeps me thinking, but I will need some help with this movie after you'all have seen it. Keep me 'posted'. I may not remember what I just wrote. I'd give it an A. Summary: Sherlock Holmes and Ground Hog's Day all mixed together. It's no date movie. It's a thinking movie. ------------------ humble, but hungry.
I haven't seen it yet, though I want to. I was going to go last week, but it wasn't playing in the DFW area yet (it is now). I toyed with the idea of driving to Austin to see it since I wasn't sure when it was going to get to DFW, but I came to my senses and didn't make the trek. ------------------ Houston Sports Board
Awesome movie. I loved the reverse-time layout. I would say more, but I'd hate to spoil it for those who haven't seen it yet. ------------------ I'm about to boldly go where many men have gone before.
I haven't seen the movie either, but I thought their web site was pretty cool. Check it out... http://www.Otnemem.com You will need Flash.
I like the newspaper page. You should come back and read it after the movie. It fills in some "gaps". ------------------ humble, but hungry.
This was one of the Audience Award winners at the Sundance Film Festival. I didn't get a chance to see it... but as luck would have it, it got big! BTW, did anyone recognize the lead actor? ------------------ \../
BTW, it's Memento. It was OK, piece it together in normal sequence, and it's really not that great a story. Heb, it's Guy Pearce from L.A. Confidential. ------------------ www.swirve.com I think my w**** is dead.
One review said that when you reconstructed the story, it didn't really maek coherent sense. Did it seem that way to you guys? I'm probably going to wind up seeing it either way... but I figured I'd ask anyway . ------------------ I would believe only in a God who could dance. - Friedrich Nietzsche Boston College - NCAA Hockey National Champions 2001
2 Things about the story being coherent; 1) He wants you to feel what the character is going through. That is pretty straight forward. He can't make sense of it. Neither should you. 2) The incoherence is part of the directors point. He is trying to get you to question what is real. Is it your last memory. Or your first. Think about it for a while. It makes you wonder. Think about how your opinions change as you grow older. He seems to be asking us about time and how it relates to our life. I'm not sure what to think, but I know the director is trying to get us to think about it. In one part of the movie the character say to himself. 'How can I heal when I have no concept of time.' That is some kind of clue as to what the director wants us to feel. ------------------ humble, but hungry. [This message has been edited by PhiSlammaJamma (edited April 09, 2001).]
Piece it together in normal sequence and its not the same movie. The same could be said for Pulp Fiction, Run Lola Run, or any of a dozen movies that play with time sequencing. But in this case its moreso because it isn't really a plot movie - more of a character study as well as a mystery (which would not exist in a standard chronology). RR, Dana Carvey's movie was called "Clean Slate." It did involve recurring amnesia (with Carvey recording his thoughts on a tape recorder), and he is investigating a murder. But of course the reverse-time device isn't used. ------------------ I'm about to boldly go where many men have gone before.
mc mark's wife here...I just saw the film myself, and feel extremely confused. Perhaps I should see it again? PSJ, your points are VERY good! But, unfortunately....THIS MAKES ME FEEL EVEN MORE CONFUSED!!! I think it's too soon after seeing it to really talk about it. I need to think...and (try to) remember. Guy Pearce pulled off a very fine performance, huh? ------------------ Everything you do, effects everything that is.

rm95, yep. He was also beefed up in another movie (showing his range I guess). Just play Finally and put on shanna's clothes and you'll remember the other one. ------------------ \../
