Anyone ever heard of this group before. I heard a couple of their songs on last week's episode of "The O.C." and thought their tunes were real catchy. Here is a link to their album with some 30 second samples of each song. I really like #2,3,4, and 10. http://musicdownloads.walmart.com/catalog/servlet/AlbumServlet?id=444275
Jesus f-ing Christ - their music is on OC now? Not to send like an indie music snob, but these guys have been around for years, with some really great tunes man... I'm happy that "Float On" has brought them so much success, but that just shows the sad state of mainstream rock, when a band like MM is "discovered" by the masses through a Fox soap opera...
"This is a Long Drive for Someone With Nothing to Think About" That'd be my choice if I had to pick a best one by them. I don't like the new album too much.
During the summer, I picked up "Good News for People who Love Bad News" and liked it pretty well, then I got "The Moon and Antarctica" and I loved it, so I got the other two albums, but I haven't listened to them yet. I don't think MM could ever be one of my favorite bands, but they definitely have music that is easy to like.
i have a lot of their old live stuff, and 2 cd's...i find them good when i'm in a certain mellow mood...but otherwise i don't listen to them too much. but on the OC, come on...COME ON.
Wow, the last mood I would expect anyone to pick when talking about listening to Modest Mouse is mellow. They've got a fairly confrontational sound. As for the thread starter, everyone's heard of Modest Mouse. They've been very big for six years or so (though not a household name, they had packed shows), and had a huge radio hit last year.
Excellent band, and the Moon and Antarctica is one of my favorite albums ever. If you ever decide to check 'em out live, be prepared to be disappointed if you're not a fan of new and inventive sounds from the normal songs on CD. They should be beaten with open herpe soars for allowing The OC use of their songs.
I like Float On...Don't know if I'll buy the album based on one song, but we'll see... On one hand, if I was a band, I'd hate to be on some show like the OC, etc... However, on the other hand, a lot of the teenage buying public is watching, thus $$$ wins out for selling out...
indie fans must remember this, the flaming lips were on 90210 and even played for the Walsh class. An added bonus if anyone can name the song.
I like MM, they work well for me with Radiohead and Eliott Smith on my mix CDs. I've only heard two albums tho.... Good News For People WLBN and The Moon and Antartica. I would definately consider them a mellow type feel band, they can make fun of your ideals or make you question them and make you feel good while they are doing it, I like that.
Actually, lots of people caught onto Modest Mouse this year on the strength of the song alone. It was a hit in 04 before it showed up on the OC.
