I'm thinking of purchasing some new albums. What are some essential rock albums that no one should be without? Out of those that I already own, I consider the following in that catagory:

    "Ok Computer" Radiohead
    "The Bends" Radiohead
"Songs for the Deaf" Queens of the Stone Age
    "Toxicity" System of a Down

So, can you guys recommend other classic modern rock (90s - present) albums that are essential to any rock music officianado?

    Toadies-Rubberneck

    Best alternative album ever.

I would also take System of a Down off of the list.

Also, replace OK computer with Kid A.

What kind of rock, any kind of rock? Would grunge count? Indie rock?

I think I'd start with Stone Temple Pilots "Core"

Purchase all of the Nickleback albums and you're good to go for that time period.

Great, great succession man. I've heard a lot good things about them. I'll definitely have to check them out.

How about Puddle of Mudd. I hear they are similar to Nickleback. How about them?

How far back are you going? IF you consider the early 90's...

    Pearl Jam - 10
    Nirvana - Nevermind

BTW..."Songs for the Deaf" is one of the greatest rock albums of all time.

OK, some of these are holdovers from 80s groups, and most reflect well-known artists, but bottom line is that they are all great IMHO:

    1. U2- Achtung Baby
    2. REM- Automatic for the People
    3. They Might Be Giants- Apollo 18
    4. The Smithereens- 11
    5. Cheap Trick- Cheap Trick (1997)
    6. Nirvana- In Utero
    7. Radiohead- OK Computer, Kid A, Hail to the Thief
    8. Prince- Diamonds & Pearls
    9. Foo Fighters- any, take your pick
    10. White Stripes- White Blood Cells
    11. Tool- Lateralus
    12. The Strokes- Is This It
    13. Metallica- Metallica
    14. Pearl Jam- vs.
    15. Weezer- any, take your pick, probably Blue
    16. Green Day- Dookie
    17. Jeff Buckley- Grace
    18. Arcade Fire- Funeral
    19. Beck- Odelay (is that a 90s CD?)
    20. Soundtrack- O Brother Where Art Thou

Honorable Mention: The Kinks Ultimate Collection- released in 2002. As the godfathers of hard rock (You Really Got Me, All Day and All of the Night) and the most underrated band in rock and roll history, it is an essential greatest-hits collection no one should be without.

I know . I guess being sarcastic isn't my strongest trait, right along with spelling.

But I have great taste in music and "Toxicity" by System of a Down is indeed a classic.

Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream or Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness.

Can't go wrong with either one.

Really? That was when I quit listening to NIN. I thought it was a terrible album. IMO, this was his best...
