MADRID -- The center court at next week's Tennis Masters Series tournament in Madrid will look more like a catwalk than a sports arena after organizers decided to drop the traditional ball boys and ball girls in favor of glamorous female models.

The organizers are reported to be paying the 25 women an average of $1,115 to do the job previously done by enthusiastic young volunteers from local tennis clubs.

Coach Julio Nieto admitted that he had had a tough job in training the models for the tournament.

"We have had to show them what the sport is all about," he told sports daily As. "We had to start by explaining what a game, a set and ace were and then tell them when and how to pass the players the balls.

"It's not going to be perfect, but I'll be happy if things turn out well and there are no protests from the players. Although personally I think that with such beautiful girls the players are going to be distracted."

World No. 1 Roger Federer leads the field at the tournament, which begins Monday.

Kramer: Hey Jerry, do me a favor. The next time you see that lineswoman ask her how those ball boys get those jobs. I would love to be able to do that.

Jerry: Kramer, I think perhaps you've overlooked one of the key aspects of this activity. It's ball *boys*, not ball men. There are no ball men.

Kramer: Well there ought to be ball men.

I read that on ESPN. Kind of sucks for the kids who got the thrill of doing that job. I always thought that was cool that they had kids out there. Not sure what the models will add to the experience.

Depends on what they are wearing i guess. I wonder if they are not going to run to the balls becuase they think their hair or makeup is going to get messed up.

"run?" " You want me to do what?" im sure they will do their nice runway walks all the way to the ball and dely the tennis game a good extra 2 hours.

Considering that pic posting is turned off, we're just going to have to have a lot more useless threads.

Whoa. Just had a GARM flashback there.
