a cousin of mine says he has a modded xbox 360. he said could get someone to mod mine but im wondering is there any down side to it. i mean i play online a lot so is there anyway for me to get banned from online play because im using a modded system? i really dont see how they could find out and unless my 360 gives out im in good shape. but since its one of the newer models (got it in february) im not to worried about it giving out. are there any other down sides?
I believe I read online, that if you have a modded box you could have your XBL account banned. (when they do an update it can detect it). Ofcourse this could be just a bunch of hot smoke.
thats what i would be afraid of. i mean online play is one pretty much all i do. id hate to be banned, not that it wouldnt be warranted.
This is correct, sort of. They ban your actual box, not your xbl account, or at least used to. Apparently, even if you only play only retail copies online, there is still a way for live to detect if your drive has been flashed. We have two of them, one modded and one un-modded. That is probably the only way to be sure you can always get online.
You WILL get banned. I know two guys who got banned this way and had to buy new 360s so they could enjoy the best part of the 360: playing online. The other downside to modding a console: the games aren't as fun. If you get them for free, you tend to not put as much time into them because there is no investment other than downloading. Just buy the games.
I've had my box modded for about 2 1/2 years already. Have not been banned. Went through the latest updates and everything. I'm not the only one thats never been banned either. Its a risk to take especially if you like XBL, but anyone who says you WILL be banned outright, doesn't know what they are talking about. The majority of people that did get banned was because they failed to burn the game properly with all the patches needed.
I got mine done for 40 bucks about a year and a half ago. I sent it to the guy that runs this site: http://www.360mods.net/ His name is Chad aka "Textbook", and he is legit and honest. The price includes return shipping.
Man I just got an xbox 360 elite and wanted to Mod it. Now I don't know I like the online play. Can anyone direct me to a nice website laying out the options on games (patches)/instructions/online play.
My 360 upstairs is modded and it has never been banned. That being said, after 2 years of it being modded, the drive is crapping out on me and won't read any games (even legit games).
If you primarily play online, I wouldnt recommend it. I only go on Live to get new DLC. My friend got his banned for playing a burned NBA 2k8 within about 4 days.
Hey I sent my modded box to Textbook to fix the red lights of death. Got it back and hasn't failed on me since. I too can vouch for this guy and say he is 100% legit. If you need yours modded, he is the guy to goto unless you personally know somebody that can.
That's where I found the DIY guide. I did it, and it was pretty easy, aside from getting the actual box open. It took all of an hour. [45 minutes getting the box open (my first attempt I'm sure I'm much faster now)] If you're adventurous or just curious, try it.
im starting to think its not worth it. i think im gonna borrow his and try to play online. well see what happens after that.
I'm not familiar with what a modified 360 is. Could someone please explain to me what its all about? Thanks.
They will ban on you on certain updates. Usually after an update is released you can find out if they have a "ban hammer" on the update. I always read up online before doing any of the mandatory updates, sometimes you can't update for several weeks. It is a headache, but IMO it's worth it because I hate paying for games. And not only will they ban you from xbox live, but they can turn your whole system into a useless brick.
