In Newsweek magazine...they have this article about Kobe and his life...they say he was quiet and antisocial and his life was pretty much "orchestrated" by his parents. And when he came to the NBA straight from high school, a bunch of his teammates didn't like his arrogance. They said he felt better than all of them.

"We're all arrogant, but Kobe just had more confidence in his ability," says Cuttino Mobley, a friend of Bryant's and a shooting guard for the Houston Rockets.

Isn't Mobley kinda defending Kobe? Cocky people support each other...:D

Pretty long and good article...just wanted to share.

    No bashing please!

How is he defending him, he's stating a fact, that Kobe was more confident in his abilities than most. It's the truth. Just a paper thin reason for Cat haters I guess to keep on hating.

Just because he whores around on his wife is no reason to think Kobe is a bad guy. I mean that shouldn't sully his reputation, should it. He did buy her a big ring. If that dosen't prove how much he loves his wife, what possibly could?

Mobley isn't bashing or defending. He is gravy training. His publicist probably got him in touch Newsweek or vice versa. Said publicist then probably cemented the deal by using Cat's Philly roots to provide a tenuous Kobe connection and get cat some "exposure". I don't remember ever hearing that the two of them were friends before. I am not a Cat basher, but for some reason I can see it going down like that. In truth, it is exposure for cat in what will probably be the most read article in the country this week. Sort of sad.

Jesus, he makes ONE innocent remark about Kobe being more confident in hsi skills and now all of a sudden he is a gravy train riding off Kobe's popularity for more pubilicity. As for his publicist getting in touch with the people so that he can "gravy train" publicity, magazines like that always asks fellow athletes like Mobley about Kobe because they grew up in the same area. The players don't have to know each other, a guy like Mobley can get a sense about what is going on in a place like Philadelphia because he's been there, and was there around the same time Kobe was there.

SLA, you sound like a reporter putting thoughts into the two words a player says. Give it a rest and learn to read, not read into statements.

Mobley has been "sort of" defending opposing guards for his entire career... why is this news?
