    Mobley's mentality is worrying

I fell in love with him waaay back when he was doing wonders for Rhode Island in the NCAA tourney.

I was elated when he fell on the Rockets laps in the second round of the draft; I considered it a steal.

But I have come to a painful realization that he is not a team player (or at least has not completely been of late). He often slows the team down with his transparent "ME FIRST" mentallity. If the Rox are going to do wonders we need the cat to be big and mature on the field of play. He needs to learn how to better pick his spots and make make better decissions. He is no longer a rook; he should lead by example - he should know better.

If he continues with his oft childish way of play (ocassional brain firts) he may leave Rudy and CD no choice but to trade him in Feb. I love the cat but I wish he will use his head a little - it is team game afterall.

    peace.

If you had posted this thread a week ago I might have to agree with you. But last night changed my opinion on Cuttino's game.

I listened to the Cat talk to Bill and Calvin after last night's victory and I loved what I heard concerning his team mentality and new approach to the game.

I totally agree. My biggest problem with Cat has been his shot selection, but I think that hasn't really been a problem this year. He's had a few sub-par games, but it those occasions were byproducts of the team meshing together and his shot just not falling, then I'm grateful for his struggling.

I think there is some merit to your point, but ( and this may be short term) in the last couple of games I have seen Steve and the Cat make an apparent effort to be more team oriented...IF they can learn and grow, shouldn't we credit them for that?

RON, Let me get this straight....

He would of had merit if it was a week ago.

So by that line of thinking if Mobes were to have a terrible terrible week then he Really does indeed suck.

LOL. I cant help myself. Ill agree that Mobes has shown some better shot selection, and am very happy with it this week, but its going to take more than a weeks worth of it to convince me......no offense to Cuttino and his improved play of late.

I completely agree with you Macbeth... I was bashed for my take on Mobley in the preseason, but I have to admit, I have been fairly suprised with his play of late. I am very pleased.

The team is playing like a team... Finally.

In the last four games (last week), Mobley has done exactly what a lot of you wanted... he's gotten his assist average up to 3.5 per game in that span. That's on par with or ahead of Michael Finley, Ray Allen, Bonzi Wells, Jalen Rose, and similar SG's people wanted Mobley to be more like because they're "more efficient".

Now Mobley's starting to make that turn, and people are still bashing him... who would've thunk it?

There are going to be some people who need Mobley to be a team player even before he gets put on the hotseat. People are grumbling and he plays a team game. What will happen once the heat dies down? That's how I'll form my opinion.

Before this week, he was the Roach Motel of basketball. The ball checks in but it never checks out.

Refman you hit it on the head, but I think its been a team tendancy to play this way, without any concern from the coaching staff!

I've been critical of Mobley in the past but have no problems with his play this year. He's struggled a little to find his place offensively on this team but that is to be expected when he's not the #1 guy and we're trying to incorporate so many players into the offense. He's impressed me this season and I'm sure he'll find his niche offensively soon enough.

I'm optimistic about Mobley and his continued improvement with the team. I haven't seen enough games, so I can't comment one way or another.

Dreamshake, I'm not out to pick a fight or cause any trouble, but I wish you hadn't posted that picture. I don't think it's cool to have a laugh at the expense of a kid who appears to have Downs Syndrome or been born with some other abnormal condition. That's all. No biggie.

Huh? The guy had 4 assist last night, as Cat mentioned the guy has upped his assist per game over the last week or so. He is deferring, I actually heard people say that they thought he should have taken MORE shots in the Phoenix game. He is helping Ming get used to the NBA along with the rest of the guys, and Mobley had an offnight shooting early in the Cavs game so he didn't shoot until the Rockets needed him in the 4th. How in the world is this childish and the sign of a guy that isn't a team player!? Did you watch the Cavs game? If you didn't go to the front page and read Clutch's recap of the game.

Exactly!! I'm going to pull my hair out if i see another CUttino bashing thread!! Cat is so crucial to the Rockets success, and like The Cat said, he has increased his assist totals in the last couple of games. Personally, I see Mobley passing a lot, but he looks bad when the team can't catch them. That's not to say they're bad passes, but they are highlight passes. But who gives a rats ass? The Rockets offense over the past couple of years has consisted mainly of isolations. Do you honestly expect the entire team to start passing the ball twenty times before someone shoots? That's just not how the Rockets play.

I think it would be better if people stopped complaining about Mobley, Steve, and the rest of the team(rudy included). Just be happy that the Rockets are starting the season on a good note. 6-3 is not bad at all. Good Lord!!

This is the problem as I see it: if Cat were hurting the team by being on the floor, then why doesn't Rudy T play someone else? We have Moochie Norris, for example.

I think its easy to point to Cuttino's offense and say "He's not all that good." And Rudy isn't a dumb cluck, he can see Cuttino's shooting percentages as much as anyone.

So why is it that Mobes gets more minutes on this team than anyone else, including the Franchise?

    It's either:

    A) All of our other options at the 2 suck.

    B) His all round game (not just his offense) has earned the pt.

My guess is, Cuttino is underrated as a defensive player. My further guess is, if we had a better option at the 2, Cuttino would play fewer minutes and his offense wouldn't be quite as bad. I just get the feeling he's a little overplayed.

    Dave.
