Terms were not disclosed on the contract, but the deal is expected to be a 2-year deal with Mobley holding the option on a third season -- total value of nearly $13.5 million.

He'll probably be a free agent though in 2 years.

I believe Francis is not a free agent until 3 years from now.

Meaning if I'm not mistaken, starting next season, we'll have a free agent guard per season to re-sign: Shandon (if he doesn't opt-out -- he may stick around for a cheap third year for a max-type deal in 2002) in 2001, then Mobley in 2002 and Francis in 2003.

I have a question on Shandon Anderson's contract. Is it a player option or team option for the third yr?

Clutch, we don't get Shandon's bird rights for another 2 years because of his player-option?

I doubt that Shandon will go for another "cheap" contract after the money he gave up to come here.

if Shandon waits 1 more year (doesn't exercise his option and takes the 3rd year at around 2.6 I believe) then we have his big bird rights, and can max him out.

Francis will just be a restricted, so he shouldn't have us sweating over money.

    MManal, Shandon's contract has a player's option.

The Chronicle reported that the average salary was officially set at $3.63 million. That means Mobley's max on the first year is $3.9204 million (which I'm sure he got). Assuming 12.5% raises, his contract is worth $4.41045 million in the second year and $4.9005 million in the third, and $13.23135 altogether.

On 610 right now Rich and Charlie stated that its a 6 year deal. Rockets did not announce the terms at the press conference, but Cuttino and Rudy are going to be on 610 in the next three hours or so.

So how much money does Cat have to give back to the NBA due to the CBA agreement?

what am I missing here. Feagan said that Mobley could negotiate an opt-out, the AP-wire is saying Lewis did negotiate an opt-out, and now Clutch is saying Shandon has an opt-out.

The early termination loop-hole (sign long contract with opt-out to become free agent early) was sealed by the new CBA. It takes 5 years to exercise an opt-out now. In fact, the Patricia Salary Sheet has a legend that incluse opt-outs ("x-outs"). She does not have one player in the entire league with an opt-out clause in their contract.

I am wondering if what we promised Shandon was a big pay day after 2 yrs or 3 yrs. I am hoping the way it works is that if the Rockets can get a big ticket FA ie. Webber that Shandon would wait 1 yr for his payday otherwise, the Rockets would give him his extension in 2001 with cap space. I think that would be fair and hope Shandon is ok with some type of arrangement like that.

So, achebe...working on your post count I see.

I got stuck on opt-outs meaning ETOs, whereas it is just one type.

But the Aldridge 6yr for Mobley led to speculation that he could opt-out at 2yrs like the old CBA allowed. That's all I was trying to clarify with Feagan's vague wording.

    carry on...

A long term contract, huh? It sounds very similar to Walt's contract. What if this big money deal turns Cat into another Wizard? Remember how good Walt was supposed to become? Now he's an NBA nomad. Or worse--- another Cato! Nothing about Mobley suggests this could happen (and I still have hopes for Cato), just something to think about.
