Mark Berman was interviewing him on tonight's news & he seemed really sad about it. He said that he feels betrayed, but understands. All the while, you could tell he wanted to speak his mind, but he chose to handle himself with class & true professionalism, by attempting to take the high road. Before last year, I was one of his biggest critics. I have since, changed my stance & truely regret that he has to be included in this deal. Cat, you truely are a class act & I wish you all the best if this deal goes through.
As far as positions go, it is really swapping Cat at the 2 for T-Mac at the 2... offensively it's a steal. Still feel sorry? Besides, he'll be with his best buddy... until SF is traded out. I'll miss SF and the team as it is... we just needed a strong PF and a good sharp shooter off the bench, with a good back-up PG... and some sliding of SF to the 2. Now, we may have another high score threat being tamed by JVG at a different spot on the floor, with less defense to boot. That's what I'll feel sorry for. Cat's defense leaving the floor, and the lack of a chance to see what we had finally cracked into (the Playoffs) go farther. On the other side of the coin, Cat worked his rear off, kept quiet (mostly, except for some comments about the fans), and was a team loyalist... Oh well. It's a business. I feel most sorry for Cato. He's the one in a rap song - "Somebody tell Kelvin Cato, we want our money back." And now he's out.
Look, I like Cat. But he and Steve are versions of the same player. If we gave up just Steve in a deal and got back an All Star, I'd be all for that. I wish he wasn't whining because now if the T-Mac deal should fall through, then other GM's might balk at taking on Steve. Cat really showed some improvement last year. I wish we could keep him; but even if we did, would shipping out Steve cause Cat to opt out next year, and then we lose him for nothing?
I feel bad for Cat because the Rockets organization hasn't even talked to him yet. I think that's just disrespectful. With that said, I do want the trade to go through.
I will now always be a Mobley fan. His interview last night was so classy. I felt so bad for the man. You know he is hurt beyond description, but he was just classy without being dishonest. He said that if he had to come back b/c of the deal not going through, it would be like getting back with a girlfriend that you had found cheating on you. I think that says it all. It is very personal. Having made a serious career change before, I can tell you all that it is very personal. Even for a business man, it was personal. But time heals things and Cat will be ok.
totally agreed...classy...impressive. true to the end. he changed his game to fit a role here under JVG. turned himself into a helluva defensive player at the 2. i will miss cat mobley.
