Is it possible to do a sign and trade with the Bulls pick. I mean, Chicago needs a guard really bad and Cat would seem to fit in. The bulls will probably end up with one of the top 3 picks. Maybe we can get Kenyon Martin for cat since the Bulls have a forward in Elton Brand anyways. Anywho, just wanted to hear some opinions.

The Jerry's may not be brilliant, but I don't think they're THAT stupid.

Cat's a good player, but you'd have to trade Francis to get a pick like that.

I've read all of the stuff on why Mobley probably will be forced to go to the first bidder that Houston can't match. Mobley deserves more than we can pay him right now, 550 grand , I beleive. Isnt there any way that the Rocks can just make one of the famous "wink-wink" moves, where Mobley gets all of the money later? If they really don't want him to go there's gotta be a way.
If Mobley leaves he is gonna come back and haunt us for years to come.

How about Mobley and Houston's lottery pick for the #1 pick, a sign and trade deal?

Read a bit of the site: your figure is wrong.

We can give him about 4 million-league average.... otherwise, we're already over the cap.

My answer to any trade involving Cat, short of gaining a premier superstar would be a flat "NO".

If he leaves on his own on the other hand, we'd better get a young, energetic SG who gets along w/ Steve and the rest of the team in return, because if he goes then you can kiss the last couple months' chemistry goodbye.

Cat makes around 350K - an absurdly low sum for someone of his talent. After 1-2/3 years of showing off - and taking the best off the first step - he knows he's worth 20 times that next year.

Whippin' Kobe's tail on NBC probably added $1.5mil alone to his value... But he deserves it. He's only going to get better, and he'll probably whip Kobe's butt next time they meet, too. Can all you Cat-haters out there picture what he'd be like if (when) he finally understands that he's not the only option? Add a couple APG (which is what I think he'll work on next) and he's a star. And he knows it.

So pay him the $4.1mil or whatever he's entitled to nest season (I think 108% of his level). Trade Bryce for nothing and use the exception (if possible) if you have to, just keep Cat. And if he chooses to bite a bigger fish anyway, then make sure you get a good replacement, because he WILL burn us later if we don't fill in the hole.

    Don't let this guy leave.

    Are you guys crazy?!

Do you not realize what we have in Cuttino?

This guys is going to be looked back on as an amazing discovery. Here's a guy that has and will out play and perform just about ALL of the picks ahead of him.

Here is a guy who has formed a bond with our franchise player. These 2 guys need to continue to play together until they both are wearing Championship rings. They have the potential to be the most feared backcourt in the entire league.

And you want to break that up for an unproven lotto pick?!

To address any and all trade speculation that will arise repeatedly this summer: I am dead-set against trading or letting go of Steve Francis, Cuttino Mobley, Shandon Anderson and Hakeem Olajuwon.

There is my stance. I will not sway from this opinion.

haven -- There's not a pick in the draft better than Steve Francis.... Rockets would have to be crazy even to consider that.

The Bulls have two picks if Washington does not make the Top 3 so it's not as far fetched as it may seem, but I agree with SpaceCity to a point: I probably wouldn't part with any of the three guards (unless something just screams of being a good deal)

This comes down to circumstances. All things being equal....no way.

But if for some reason, Mobley wants to go to Chicago, I'd be all for it.

But, it makes no sense. For sign and trades, the purpose is to create cap to sign a player. Trading away a pick won't really do that. Factor in the pick could get Chris Mihm, or KMart or Swift, and this deal is senseless.

Clutch - Do you really think that the top 3 picks in this draft will be worth less than Mobley? I know this draft is shallow... but Mobley's a scorer. Those are nice, but hardly rare.

Kenyon Martin, Stromile Swift, Marcus Fizer (even though I don't like his game)... not worth Cuttino Mobley? A player at a position we already have a starter for?

If we were trading for the 6 pick... no way. But for the 1-3, I don't see how Mobley is worth that much.

good point haven...and I thought I was the only one who didn't like Fizer's game!

I don't see Chicago trading the pick unless:
1.) They have Duncan in their clutches, and a little wink wink deal, knowing he's theirs.
    2.) Mihm doesn't declare.

Chicago unloaded players and such for just this reason, draft picks and a quick, exciting rebuilding process. That is not to say they would not do some wheeling and dealing, but I think they keep their lotto pick this year. Plus, you trade your top pick for Cuttino, and you risk the possibility of taking up some cap room, as Cuttino will likely wish for the max, thus lessening the chances for the Jerry's to get their man (Hill, Duncan).

I don't think Chi-town even looks at this option.

haven -- you may be right, but I think Mobley can be more than just a scorer in this league. I think he can be a star 2-guard... but when you're talking size like a Swift, Martin, Fizer... I doubt a guy like Mobley could fetch them.

To be honest I'm a little schizo on Mobley... one day I think he's going to be a superstar and the next I think he shoots way too much. I do get worried about how the Rockets are going to find balance in their shots if they do by chance get some inside presence with guys like Mobley and Francis in the backcourt. Mobley, Francis, Walt and Shandon took an incredible majority of the shots the last 10-15 games or so.

Granted this is a fairly good problem to have.

Clutch - Oh, I agree with you... Chicago would never do that trade if they could get swift or martin. I just thought that was the hypothetical nature of the question.

I also concede that Mobley can set up other guys really well on his penetration some time... do Mobley and Cato ever remind you of the way that Clyde used to set up Chucky Brown?

That's when I like Mobley the most. If Mobley can learn to get 5 assists along with his 18 points a game, then I'll be very happy.... I'd still give him up for kmart though [IMG]

Not to mention why this deal wouldn't happen because of the items involved, it is not possible because free agency doesn't start until after the draft. Unless there is some illegal negotiations between Cuttino and the Bulls and they make an agreement in which the Rockets secretly pick in the Bulls selection and vice versa, this won't happen. Not to mention Cuttino won't be involved in a sign-and-trade. Sign-and-trades are meant to get the free agent more money, but money is the only thing we can't offer Mobley. If Mobley stays he stays, if he goes it will not be through sign-and-trade

Mobley is truly something. One night he comes out looking like a future superstar, scoring 35 points and grabbing 9 boards.
The next game we see him shooting 4-15, while on the other hand we have Shandon playing some sound defense and putting up his numbers.
I just don't know what to say about this guy.

Just say he's your typical shooting guard.

leave Cat alone with the Rockets. This trio of gaurds need to be together. This is Detroit all over again. We have to keep Cat and in a couple of years this trio will kick ass.
Just get them some inside help, anything and they will be fine.

    You asking for opinions...

My opinion is: we have a couple excellent new posters here. Chickenhead28 is clearly going to start pecking at the thecabbage's well-grounded head.

And as a VERY FIRST post, I'm targeting DaFranchise as ROY capologist to start giving aelliott some serious one-on-one soon. Matter of fact...DaFranchise, can I hire you to be my aelliott buffer. Watch out though, his strategy is to cite only well-researched facts. Following that line can cause dry mouth.
