Good for Cuttino. Those refs were horrible. Maybe this will wake them up.

That's it?!? Van Exel got fined $10,000 for saying the refs were calling a poor game. Cuttino calls them "r****ds" and only gets fined $7500? Hmmmmmm.......

Oh well. Probably because Nick's past.

So what Mobley got fined less. $2500 extra is nothing to them.

I just find it wierd. I'm assuming it's because of Nick's previous problems. I just think it's wierd that Nick commented on officiating being bad (which it is) and got fined $10K. Meanwhile Mobley called a ref a "r****d" (which most are) and only got $7500.

Hell, they're both right, so I'm not b****ing, just find this odd.

Mobley is a first time offender, that makes a huge difference.

Talk to the media about how your former team mistreated you, and you're classless, but call a referee a "r****d", and we praise you or have no comment. Welcome to clutchcity.net.

If the ref is a r****d, then we praise you, but if your team didn't mistreat you, then you're classless.

    i missed that.

van exel pushes a different ref like 5 years ago and thats suppose to make a difference?

does the fact that hes changed on and off the court then count? does the fact that he does community service count? delivers turkeys on thanksgiving to the poor count? goto schools to talk to kids?

its not the same van exel. whoever thinks hes the same really isnt a smart nba fan.

im just saying two guys said similar things about the refs, one was worse than the other, yet the lesser got fined more. doesnt make sense.

dont take your losing streak out on me.

I've always wondered about the NBA and their fines they give to players (Ex. Mobley) for speaking their minds about officials. Doesn't this violate the freedom of speech right, I mean it doesn't say in the Constitution freedom of speech to all except those who play sports.

He wasn't arrested he was fined by the governing body of his employer. Just like you can't tell your boss that he is a r****d without reprocussions, you Mobley can't say it to officials.

NugzFan -- I apologize if my three words and photo got you upset (obviously it struck a nerve), but they were designed to make a point: Nick Van Exel has a history with the refs, which might explain why he was fined $2500 more than Mobley.

Just doing a quick search, I found atleast 5 times where Van Exel has been fined for abusing refs. The NBA generally cracks down on repeat offenders. How else do you explain Van Exel calling all referees cowards and biased and being fined $10,000, then doing it again 8 days later and being fined twice as much?

Or Mark Cuban being fined 4 times for speaking out about refs/the league last year ... the first three totalled $45,000 and the last one was $250,000?

Mobley, to the best of my knowledge, has never had a history of ripping officials or getting fines, so this was a first-time offense (just as Van Exel was fined the same $7500 in February of 2000 for verbally abusing one ref, Steve Javie). On top of that, while I found his comment to be the greater of two evils ("it's another thing to be r****ded"), the league may not have. Van Exel's comments were accusations of bias in the league.... Mobley was ripping this one referee as being awful.

Also, Van Exel said, "It ain't gonna change, so I'm going to keep cussing them out." .... do you think the league is going to respond to that with, "Ahh, but he delivers turkeys."?

You call me not a smart NBA fan for thinking this is the same Van Exel.... I say a not-so-smart NBA fan ignores the history and thinks the NBA does also.

it didnt strike a nerve. it just didnt make sense. i didnt see how him pushing a ref 5 years ago should equate to a bigger fine.

1, not that i care (not my money and he makes a sh!tload anyways) and 2, if thats the rule, then fine. i wont argue that. i dont know the nba's policy but i saw two similar players say similar things, one of a larger magnitude, and yet got fined a smaller amount. thats what i was comparing. if the nba has this growing penalty rule, then that makes complete sense.

honestly, i think its part of the leagues policy to screw the nuggets at any time possible :)

    conspiracys suck ass.

maybe i can go around and talk smack about the refs for the players...they could pay me to make the comments for them without the fine...

...i can see it now...i head to different cities wearing the jersey of the player that hires me and make post game comments for them...
